Online driving changed by lag?

Sounds obvious I know, but I can't imagine I'm the only one struggling with this. It never happened in 5.

Twice now I've found myself struggling to match the fastest people using same car. I've saved both replays and checked lines etc.

When I open my own room with the same settings I'm as fast if not faster on the very first lap. Has anyone else noticed this?

In the manual is does say a decent connection is required or it effects the realism of the car handling. You need at least 2 (ideally 3) bars out of 5. Maybe this applies?

It was already an issue in GT5. Bad connections in the room can hurt your grip a lot. You'll never get the same grip as when playing alone in the room when there are others present, question is only how bad it is. Getting used to it is the only solution I can offer.
