Ok so I was at the mall and had to stop and look at the Galaxy Note II. Now my question is with it's hot spot capability, how feasible is it for gaming on the PS3 and/or xbox?

What kind of data plan would I need?

I'm gaming on average of 2 hours per day (estimate on the really high side). How much data usage would I need on my plan? Is 10GB enough? 12GB?

Tha should be enough for online gaming alone, but you would need more data for streaming hd films or even sd

I dont think you can hotspot internet from a phone. I tried it on a 3g phone so that may be the problem. Either way, the device wouldnt even pop up in the menu.

Ive heard of people doing this but the result was rather ******.........You could probable do "turn base" games like golf but I think you will not like the end result...BUT if you try this I would try to go with unlimited Data....

I dunno if this would perform like a router, or like a laptop with internet connection sharing, but if it's more like the latter I wouldn't rely on it as your primary connection.

I've played XBL through a laptop and it lags pretty heavily on any rooms with less-than-superb ping. Not to mention the "Moderate" NAT that'll bar you from joining almost every lobby you see. That gets pretty old pretty fast.

I was going to comment, like KAT said about golf....I was going to say that you do not a lot of bandwidth.....until I realized it wasn't 'online gambling' I should have read the title closer....:)

Thanks for the posts guys. I'm still researching it and getting very mixed results. I just don't want to lag or run out of data. Still don't know how big of a data plan I would need though. My Comcast account says I used 10GB each of the last 3 months. The plan I'm looking at is 12GB.... Might have to make a stop at Verizon this weekend to have a chat with someone. Hopefully they are familiar with this.

You wan't to make a connection to your consoles with your mobile so you can play online? Like with Forza?? That's called tethering. And you probably want 4g LTE for that so make sure the phone got that.

You are correct Carlos. Just seeing if its worth getting the phone with a big data plan and just cancelling my landline internet.

Ok Carlos. I'll check into that.

Update.

It is 4G LTE. 👍

Just got my note 2 thru Verizon and while its got very fast internet it would he ungodly expensive to use as a hotspot/teather. The vzw 12 gig plan is about $110 a month for me I pay $60 for an unlimited plan thru my isp for 40mb/s.

If you had the money though would you be able to game...How do you think the lag/ping would be.....to me it would seem like a small piece of equipment doing something that is not its main purpose to do

My thought behind this is....

My cheap phone service $50 + home internet $50 = $100

Or

Really good phone service that will also cover my home net needs with the arguably best phone on the market for just $10 per month more.

It would just seem there would be alot of stress on the cell phone..But phones are "throw away" technology to me...There is always new phones they want you to buy...Its a rip off in my opinion..but Im getting of subject....

Not sure how familiar you are with the Note 2 but it's supposed to be one of if not the best phone currently on the market. Its a beast of a phone.

Yeah but can you tell me what the "beast" phone was 1 year ago??

Good point. but I think allot of that is simply due to technology advancing at a rapid rate and not so much that the phones of last year no longer work properly.

I'm not sure about using a phone for gaming? My buddy was tethered in a remote area to his phone, but after 30 minutes of online web searching the phone was almost on fire it was so hot.

Rule number one about internet, hard wired ethernet first, then wireless. Not that wireless routers aren't fast, it's a security issue.

I get 91 ms ping a 4.1m down and 6.1m up (?) On a good Verizon 4G connection thru mu Note 2

I think his question is, do you recieve 4G at your house?

Oh. Yeah im pretty sure although I haven't been able to test this because I haven't bought the phone yet and my current phone is only 3G from Metro.

Hmm seems slower than some of the other numbers ive heard.

Well, I've used 3G for Gaming but only when my landline was down.
think it was the last season.

I had a mifi connected to my PC, from which I ran internet sharing across the lan.

It did work well enough but it was a bit hit and miss with the xbox's and the port forwarding UPNP etc. which resulted in me abandoning any more racing as the days it failed to work well were the race days!!
generally though when it worked it worked well enough for racing online.

It's fine to get you out a hole. but it's very expensive broadband.. and as for 4G hahahahah$$$$$$

on 3G I was getting about 3.5Mb down 1.5Mb up and a ping time in the 50-60 ms.

Well I went to Verizon and it seems there are a bunch of hidden fees that the website doesn't show me so I think this is going to be a no go for me.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Have you thought of using PagePlus?????........Dont think it will help you out with your gaming situation..but you being a Florida resident you might like it...I swapped from Verizon to the pay as you go plan of Page Plus..I bought a used smart phone on Ebay (Verizon phone)..and started using Verizon towers....payment the same but more Data..unlimited text/phone
