First of all, apologies in advance if this is an already well-covered issue. I checked the FAQ section of this part of the forum and also did a search for 'leaderboards', but the former included no relevant information and the latter only brought up what I would call 'manual' leaderboard challenges.

I turned GT5 on today for the first time in over a year, downloaded loads of updates and *hoped* that one of these would be online leaderboards of some description. I still can't see them, am I missing something or have they still not been implemented?

You are correct. There are no leaderboards and probably won't be any if you booted up next year either.

Agree with this, absolutely crazy how this has been overlooked. I can see why I hardly touch GT anymore, great driving experience but is lacking in so many ways with this feature being the biggest miss by far. It's features like this that keep people motivated and interested in playing the game.

You only have to look at the GT Academy stats to see that there are a lot of people out there wanting this badly needed feature. :ouch:

Maybe the leaderboards are "Still in the process of evolution" :sly:
 
If pd can implement leaderboards into the academy then it should be a simple update or patch to have them in the full game, WHY are they not there???? Only kaz can tell us this and considering he never seems to answer a direct question (much like a politician) we can only ever guess what's coming next for the game.
 
I thought women were hard to work out but Kaz and his thinking is just NEXT level!! lol

Well there needs to be a class system in place first. How they go about that is up to them.
Otherwise you would have a board full of X bull cars.
 
Sadly it is a big missing feature. What I don't understand is how it is implemented for the tt's, drift events, and gta but is absent from the main game. That would certainly keep people playing longer imo. I know I enjoy battling my friends for supremacy on the tt's. If implemented though I agree that it needs a far better filtering system than the one that is in place. Seperate filters for car, tuning, tires, pp, aids, controller type, etc.
 
Had this discussion before about leaderboards, surely if there is to be a Spec 3 update this should be one of the main new features added. Like Spagetti say's, we will be in need of a better system though.

I can't even play the other game at the moment as Microsoft have screwed up the FFB with a dashboard update :crazy::ouch:

It might have something to do with complexity. I can only imagine with all the filters required for tracks, cars, tires, tuning etc. It worked fine in Prologue but GT5 is more complex in terms of content and options. Otherwise I don't see why they left permanent leaderboards out but what do I know?

If it was implemented in the main game there might be less reasons to play the seasonals or GTA.

Also, it would mean being online so might mean you couldn't play it offline.
 
I think with most of PD's decisions and indecision there is allot more to it then we think. The logic here is to earn money, and decisions will always be made to best meet that target.

Not necessarily, if they maybe put a search thing in to where you could limit the pp or specific to that car your driving only on the search then it would be no problem. But there would be X1s All over the top but still. Even though X1s are the stupidest idea PD has had, they do take SOME skill to get the fastest time n the world with them:)
 
Hmm. PP based would be an option.
If you don't mind hot lapping with RS to be competitive. Because that's what you would have to fit.

Would you suggest 100 pp 200 pp etc or individual 100,101,102 etc.
 
Leaderboards work just fine in Forza. They don't need pedantic board lists for every anal thing like specific upgrade combinations or tire compounds. All they need is PP brackets like Forza's PI classes. Logically, if you want to top a board in a class you would upgrade to the top of that class, but so is everyone else who wants ranked up there, so the field is leveled. Then it's just up to you to pick the best car and upgrades, tune well, and drive well.

Yes,three words: Beginner/Intermediate/Expert !This time you just cant see who has what.All in same races!Thats what they do "BEST",fooling.Give me Prologues Fuji GT-R/VETTE/F430 race back,with those physics(F430,clutch/incar/ABS off).Probably never again.GTs clory days,when searching DRIVERS limits.
 
I don't think it needs to be that complicated. The most basic calculation could be something as simple as the reverse of your finishing position x degree of difficulty worked out to an average per race.

For example, if there are 8 drivers in a race and you finish first, your first multiplier is 8. Degree of difficulty is perhaps the average rating of all the drivers in the race. It should be worked out so that the best drivers online achieve a rating around a round number such as 100 or 1000.

Certain thresholds should be in place in order for a race to qualify for the rating system so that it can't be cheated. Things such as:

1. A minimum number of entrants to discourage small groups from racing over and over to pad their ratings.

2. Minimum race lengths.

3. Certain race paramters must be activated. For example, PP unlimited races will not count.

4. Cars must be within a certain range of PP from each other and/or from the PP limitations for the room.

I believe the whole issue of tire compounds, tunes, DS3/wheel etc. are moot points. In the end, regardless of the type of race, compound, track etc. the best drivers win or finish high, the less skilled drivers finish lower down. At best, all you need to do is alter the degree of difficulty adjustment in your rating for tire compounds, but the adjustment can't be so large that it discourages racing on softer compounds because the rewards are so low. You're competing against the rest of the field, not against the tires.

Out of all of this pops a number, that's your driver rating and with it, you can now filter your online lobbies so that you have minimum requirement.

Yes that's what is needed. They would have to add tire grades to the PP though. Otherwise it's upgrade to the top of your class then add racing softs.

GT at the moment seems heavily tied to pan. Hopefully they are gathering useful data from those connections not everyone's favourite paint.

Tire compounds are a red herring in online leaderboards. Every race has a compound limit of some kind so everyone is on the same tires. If everyone is on the same tires, racing under the same regs, the fastest guy will win just about every time. Guys that are truly fast on RS tires are also truly fast on CS tires. Sure some guys only race on RS tires but so what? It's part of the game, he's racing against the field not the tires.

If it makes people feel better, you could add in an "average tire raced" rating, meaning the game would calculate the tires you used on average over your career and post it in your driver rating but I highly doubt PD would think of that or include it if they did.

Don't you think leaderboards dominated by Racing soft tires would be boring. I do.

I would rather them include tires in the PP levels.
Rather than everyone for them as standard.

Yes some are fast with lesser compounds but there faster with better ones. The fast Guys would be using them also.

Edit I'm talking about hotlapping not racing the field. How can a leaderboard work during race conditions? Not sure if we're on different wires here lol.

If you're talking about hotlapping that's a different thing to me. What I'm talking about is developing a driver rating system which measures your average performance based on strength of field, number of drivers etc..in online racing. But a hotlap type of rating could also work and would be much simpler. I think the overall rating might encourage people to race online to enhance their rating and would be much more comprehensive and involve actual racing rather than just running laps on a track. Lots of guys can run fast laps running around a track over and over, but to do it in a race, with tire wear, with other fast drivers breathing down your neck is more along the lines of a true driver's rating to me.
