When you play online, what do you set the race quality to?

What attracts the most people in the online servers?

What are your thoughts about the online lobbies, what ways could the online lobbies be improved, if needed?

How do you prefer the race quality? Why? How have you seen it affect the game?

I prefer setting the race quality to the highest possible, I like the most realistic experience while turning the voice chat quality down one, or two.

What is the best combination for your type of network, why?

Also,

What tracks do you believe attract the most people in the public servers?

Basically what are your current thoughts about online lobbies, what are some things you have learned, tricks you use to find more players when hosting.

I thought it would be nice to have an in-depth break down and discussion of the Gran Turismo 5 online lobby function.

Please tell GTPlanet what you think!

It would be nice, when highlighting a lobby in the list, that an extra information box was provided.

It would be beneficial if the host could write in the information, or new comment box with additional information other than the little the can be provided in the original comment box.

Room Comment: DTM/GT
For example: "Rules: No intentional hitting, no dangerous passing and racing tires only"

always thought race quality would only affect grafics.? so i use mostly 4 and low voice when im not with mates.

i set it to standard... this way no one that enters the room lags. very few can handle the standard setting. i find that when i set it to 5 stars some people that join lag across the screen

I turn voice off, and turn it to 4-5 stars and 16 people.

Same here, on Standard there's no lag but still enough information is passed between players for a smooth race. The quality settings have nothing to do with realism or graphics as some mistakenly think, it's just about how much information is passed between players when racing. So if you enter a room set to high & someones internet connections isn't fast enough, they'll lag or even get disconnected altogether if it drops below a certain threshold.

Even when opening a room & it recommends I choose High, I'll always go for Standard so others will slower connections can join & join in the fun too without incident. Also, if you disable chat altogether you'll get less erros when racing, it says so in the write up that scrolls accross the screen when you select it whilst setting up the room, have a look, chat is always set to disabled in all the rooms I run.

👍

It just depends on everyone's Nat type on their ps3. If lots of people have nat1 than it will run very slow and people will get disconnected a lot, but as long as the majority have nat2 or 3 everything runs well no matter what the settings. I used to have nat1 and look for special rooms with low stuff to make sure I didn't get disconnected, but majority of the time I would anyway an now that I changed it to nat2 I haven't been disconnected from any room.

You've got that back to front mate! NAT 1 means you have a wired connection & is the best, NAT 2 means you have a wireless connection, that's supposed to be ok but many on here have trouble with it. NAT 3 is the same as a failed NAT (I think) & is not at all usefull for online gaming, although I have played GT5 Prologue before with one & not had a problem, also with a failed NAT too, hehe!

👍

I have NAT2 but it's really stable, normally when I host a room I put voice chat off and quality to 4 stars.

++ for dropping voice quality to enable a high race quality...
I will never join a room with race setting less than 4... I'd rather watch paint dry. But since I only drive on the Nurb.. I suppose less would be OK for those other poser tracks in the game...

I always set race quality to very high. Gotta utilize that FiOS speed.

No I have a good wired connection and it is NAT 2, NAT has nothing to do with being wired or wireless, though any faults with either may effect the number.

Nat 2 means your internet connection is going through a netork with a router. Nat. 1 is when your connected directly to the cable modem.

Voice: OFF
Stars: 5
Slots: 12-16

i want a setting that only searches for 4-5/5 stars rooms with at least 4-5/5 in bandwidth.

bit of an old thread bump but does anyone know what dictates what room quality is recommended to you when you create a room. I dont often host but it seems that when i go to create a room it advises me to choose the lowest quality. Im just wondering if that points to an issue in my setup somewhere?

Thanks

redlinezak If it's telling you to do the lowest quality I suggest you do a speedtest maybe your upload speed are not that good for hosting. Plus if you have a router and it shows NAT 2 or 3 you might have to do some port forwarding or put your Playstations IP in the DMZ.

NAT2 is fine. It's NAT3 that people need to be concerned about. My findings are that people on NAT3 can only play in Fixed Host rooms reliably.

Yeah im nat 2 and have 0.8meg upload and 6meg download.
Also i have done a ping test which isnt amazing results but not terrible by any means.?

And your wrong as well, Im wired on 100meg fibre optic cble network that is probably the best you can get, and have Nat type.
