TeamGT-
Recently i've been having this online problem where during the race, various racers who were in the race didn't appear in the race. Someone help?!

I think this is a problem with the connection, or the server. I've had this problem before.

one main reason could be lag. Does the room have players from other countries besides Australia and/or New Zealand?

Even when there aren't people from outside Aus or NZ, people disappear for the race

Yes, we've long called this the "invisible car problem".
It's a connection issue. I've not had much troubles with this myself.
In my experience, the people I've raced with a lot, who've had the trouble the most with "invisible cars" in the race, are people using wireless connection to the internet from the ps3.

Have you switched to wireless recently?

I've seen no correlation between regions or continents or nations being an issue with this. It can happen between people in the same continent or nation, or in different ones. The one common denominator is usually that one or more parties having the problem are on a wireless connection.

And no, I don't know why really. And I can't prove that's what "causes" the problem. I'm just saying it's what I've noticed being the case.

You won't be able to see someone on the track if they have "loading lines" or moving lines under their names. The only fix I know is for you and/or the other person to back out of the room and come back into the room. This may or may not work.

I had a wired connection and had the problem earlier this year. Switching ISPs and changing a couple of PS3 and router settings helped me. http://forums.station.sony.com/dcuops3/posts/list.m?topic_id=10560

It's definitely a connection issue somewhere. To see if it's you, run a connection test before you start the game.

Yes... and they won't be highlighted in blue, even though they ARE in the track.

I've heard people say there will be a discrepancy between the position indicator (say 8/12 cars on track) in the upper left corner, and the # of racers listed in the leaderboard on the right... But I'm not sure if that's true, because I think sometimes people miscount with the leaderboard because if they're up high in the list in free run, they just might not see past #8 say when there's 15 cars on track, and assume there's some error there when there's not.
If anyone can confirm or refute this "discrepancy", I'd be interested?

Very true, this sometimes solves the problem, though I have no clue why.

It also sometimes helps if you're seeing lag, or if you're missing tire sound effects.
I'm guessing it has to do with how it's connected, and resetting that connection.

But basically if both (or all) parties involved, exit & rejoin the room, and the invisible car problem persists, then rejoining just won't help in that situation.

For someone with a persistent invisible car problem ongoing... the only thing I've known to definitely solve the problem between 2 people who can't see each other is to race in a lobby with Fixed Host Status - with an uninvolved 3rd party hosting (ie: not one of the people having the problem).

Yes, if I saw someone with loading lines they wouldn't be blue to me. If you have no problems and see 8/12 cars on the track I would see 8/11 cars on the track. They also wouldn't show on the leaderboard during the race.

If I see two cars on the track that can't see each other and they get side by side the cars will vibrate left and right until they are no longer around each other.

Also, when I had a problem seeing a driver sometimes all the cars below that driver would have loading lines and wouldn't be "blued up". This is a major problem as I have seen people say they only see a couple cars on the track and the person with the problem is very fast. It's like they have permanent boost. I race a lot at Daytona so I knew something screwy was going on.

I've also noticed that some people that have the problem would eventually lag out of the room. Some of these people have chronic connection problems.

The weird part was that in my case it wasn't my connection. I was wired to my PS3 with a Nat2 type connection. I could even host normal rooms. Perhaps my router wasn't routing a port that I needed.

This can be on behalf of a slump on connection problem and if it's in the case you see your other competitors disappear from the race venue or are not present all along.
