At the minute there isn't any structure to online qualifying or am I missing something?:grumpy:

Anybody know if its possible to see your split times and your competitors split times online in free mode/qualifying before starting a race?

It would be nice to have an F1 model were by you can set a time limit for qualification, and in that time you are free to join the track set a lap, come in chat with mates and keep an eye on your lap times compared to others who are on track, if they go faster it turns purple, then you can go back out to try and better that time etc. Then when the time limit for the session is over the grid is determined automatically by the time sheet and you go race.

that would be an awesome feature, especially if you have certain types of qualifying like a flying lap then final lap, or sudden death lap etc... make it pretty good laugh!

If I remember correctly, I noticed the following in a friend's lounge set to free-run (or whatever it is called):
- During the free-run period before the race, my current ranking (based on lap-time) was shown as a normal position indicator, as was the lap record (for the session) and my best lap times.
- When the race started proper, the grid was based on the result during free-run (at least as far as the top three places was concerned anyway, those were the only I had an eye on).

The major drawbacks of this mode seems to be that :

- Not everyone has to set a time (not sure how the game decides grid order among those that haven't qualified)

-anyone can start the race at any time and thus cutting the qualifying short and maybe even hindering people from participating if they aren't quick enough (are in the garage etc,).

Would be nice to see at least the second drawback fixed and a better leaderboard for the lap times.

You can set to grid order to fastest first and it takes peoples free run times and orders them fastest first on the grid.

You can see people split times if you press watch the race in the lobby.

We really could do with penalties in Free Run (Qualifying). At Trial Mountain, people are shortcutting that last chicane and going across the grass to improve their lap time.

Hello Polyphony Digital: Why are penalties disabled in Free Run (Qualifying) ?

To qualify, set gird order to fastest first and let everyone do a timed lap. Make sure no one quits after setting the lap.

A designated qualification round would be better, but PD has not provided this.

To get around short cutters, kick them.

Free run works as qualifying. However when you go back to the lobby you are dropped to the back of the order until you set another lap (unless other people rejoin after you).

It's not too bad, but to combat qualifying cheaters you can set the room to reverse order from the last race run. It will put the first player last and last first, anyone else who just shows up will be revered from the order they entered the track and or room. Many races I refuse to qualify as it puts strain on my car and wears down my oil, I run 15-20 lap races, but I haven't been able to run any recently. Out of the house too much. I like to start in the back and watch the mayhem at the first turn, then drive through the ghosted cars of people who don't know how to brake and sometimes the one's who got shunted mistakenly.

Good suggestions but the easiest thing would be if PD enabled pernalties for online free run, to stop qualifying cheaters.

From my observations, the default is grid by fastest lap, then track position as exited from the pits.

In the instances where the host starts the race immediately without anyone doing a lap, it's always been track position (shown in the upper right hand corner).
