Online Races - Dont need to own a car

Yesterday, I played online with some fellow GTP Members.

I noticed that I wouldn't need to own a particular car to take part in the event.

For example, the host set event regulations so that the GT-R would be the only allowed car. I didn't have the car but I would only have to click on "garage" and the game would allow me to select and race it.

Is it correct? I mean: Are online races pretty much like the arcade mode as you don't need to actually buy a car to race it on a particular track?
 
You can use your own cars from garage, just need to favorite them.
 
Do they get stuck in online mode after that? I mean can you use cars in game and online back and forth?
 
Yeah just select favorite on the ones you want to use in online, you can still use them in normal a and b spec at any time, in your garage though there will just be a star next to the name of the vehicle.
Make sure you select favorite thought and not set to online, I'm not sure what that does exactly but I think it let's your friends be able to use them if you do that.
 
there are only 52 cars i think availible to use online straight from the garage.

you cant choose 'any' car
 
And you can`t adjust any settings on these "online" cars either. They aren`t tuned as far i know!
