Online Racing Glitch?

Hey guys, dont know if anyone else has encountered this or not but its a bit too complex to try and search for. Anyway, I got in a room in the Open Lobby today, and noticed that the race was started so I hurried and picked a car from the online garage thingy. The track was Deep Forest. When the race started, instead if starting on the grid, it dropped (like it literally dropped about 8 feet out of the air) my car on the top of the hill after the first hairpin. Then the race started as normal. Everyone else started as normal, except for an S2000 that started at the bottom of the hill. Im a little confused. Anyone know what's going on?
 
Probably bad host connection.
 
I had a 12-participant game in de la Sarthe, and we're racing towards the finish line blind --- it turned to night n our headlights weren't working. And it was raining. I was about 4th, and it reached time limit, I thought I would finish in the 4th but then I finished in 11th...
