Hi All,

I have been racing offline for a long time but am now just beginning to get interested in online racing. I see all of the different racing leagues and it looks like a lot of fun but I don't understand how to participate. Could someone explain/offer suggestions for a beginning online racer? I appreciate it!:dunce:

Suggestion:

Don't drive online like you do against the AI.

Learn what's expected of a clean GTP driver.

Signing up for leagues is as simple as clicking on the thread, and saying you want in.

There are several links in my signature, have a click:

  • Read The Good Racecraft Guide, as this is pretty much how most of the gentleman racers here on GT Planet like to race online.
  • Come & race at my Saturday Stock Car Series event, you'll find lots of clean drivers of all abilities there, & it's a lot of fun too.

If you want to join a public lobby, go to the GT Life page, click on the Open Lobby icon, then you'll see a load of rooms listed on the right hand side, pick one & try it out. In my experience there are a lot of bad ones out there, stick to ones that say "Shuffle Race" (in yellow) with SRF & Boost OFF, & make sure the start rating is either 3 or 4 stars, & the latency bars are as high as possible. If the latency bars are or start ratings are low, avoid them, also avoid rooms with 5 stars as most people don't have high enough internet speeds to accommodate them, you'll end up getting lag &/or disconnected.

If you want to join a private lobby, click on "Community" in GT Life, click on a friends avatar in the list, then click on the Coffee Cup icon, this will bring up a box whereby you can enter their private Lounge, I host my SSCS race event in mine, that's why you'll only find good drivers there!

👍

PS: There are also several great video tutorials here, it's for iRacing, but the general principals apply to all online racing in driving sims.

The Low HP League is a great place for starters. I started there with organized racing, and made many racing buddies through this league. I highly recommend it. Link in my signature.
Also great is the Fun Racers, also linked to in my signature below. The Surprise Nights do not require you to prepare cars, as it's 1-make racing from the recommended list.

The best thing to do is like others said, familiarize yourself with the GTP OLR rules. And then just sign up, chat w/ your fellow racers, and join in the fun!!
It beats pub lobbies by a long stretch!!!
And most people you meet will be happy to give you tips!

In public lobbies one way to try to determine the quality of racing in the room is to look at the tire and other limitations. If there is no limits in the room it tends to degenerate in to general melee...

Also watch the racing for a while before joining in to see how the room works.
