Sorry if it's been answered before, I couldn't find a right thread.

I would like to know why there are such hughe differences between online and offline car behaviour?

As an example I was tuning an Opel Tigra when a friend was looking for a good setup for that car. I managed to find a good one, very balanced and nice behaviour, using training mode, then went to open a lobby. Took the car out and it was slipping and sliding all over the place.

If I try to setup a car I have to do it twice! That's not right!!!

And is it true that this has gotten a lot worse since 2.06 update?

What do you think? Should it be the same off/on, or is it ok the way it is?

The host can manipulate certain car characteristics online, but they are pretty minor. Drafting and off track traction is the only real difference.

Not too sure about this some others might give better answer but you might be able to tune your car in your own online lobby. It could give you different results than offline tuning. Maybe you could use 2 of same car and see if it makes any difference.

I was hosting. I had slip stream on weak, but it won't matter as I was alone in the room. off track traction was set to real, but 1st I did that in traing mode offline aswell, 2nd I haven't been off the track when the rear of the car broke out.

For no good reason, online uses a completely different physics set to the offline game. It should be the same and I'd like it to be the same, but PD would rather make the online mode even less desirable than it already is.

If I would've started the tuning online the car would still be behaving different offline. So its the same problem vice versa. I have 5 Opel Tigras and 2 Vauxhall Tigra, sure this would do, but I refuse to see myself forced to have one car for online-racing and another for offline. I want my car to behave the same way on-and offline. :)

So it seems to be true.LOL. And did you notice it's gotten worse since last updates? I didn't go online to much, due to beeing busy, so I'd like to know if it did. Because as far as I can recall I didn't have these problems before.

It almost seems that GT5 uses the physics of the previous games online... You can't roll your car online... I've tried. Too hard.

I get all sorts of weird handling/pitch & roll characteristics online compared to offline too...

This is what the tuners do, I think. I often saw Praiano testing in his lounge.

Yes, big difference.
Online has a dumbed-down physics engine, so it can save CPU cycles for processing other things like network traffic, or car on car collisions.

Exact my friend. 99.9% of my tunes are ONLINE tunes. The reason is that i race ONLINE most of the time ,the only OFFLINE events i do are the seasonals, they need a special unique tune for each event.
An Online tune work perfectly offline. The car will stay with the same balance but will show a little understeer. You can fix this with the help of the ride height setting. No need for another new tune.
But, if you tune a car offline and go driving it online , you will have a lot of bad surprises. No balance , unstable entring ,in and out a corner...... Most of the time the offline tuned car is horrible to drive online.

Good luck to everybody.

Since the last update, It seems to me that car behaviour online is much more similar to offline. I race mainly GT500, and the difference between on and offline times has been around 0.5 sec slower when I'm offline.
But that is not the norm...Yesterday, I was racing at monza online. Offline, my best time at 493hp has been 1:44.007. Online, my best time in qualy was 1:45.305 for pole position. I thought I was in for a hard race, but to my surprise I was over 1 sec faster than the rest and won by over 30sec after 14 laps...

What I can say for sure is that a good offline setup will still be good (sometimes wonderful) online. But a bad tune will turn your car into a dog online, because the game seems to accentuate the good and the bad in wichever tune you are racing...

I don't agree at all my friend. It can happen for some few stock well balanced cars (principally with downforce and medium power range ) but not for most of the cars in GT5 .

Simple solution, use the tuning set up sheet option when tuning, have set up one as offline and then sheet two as online. Always tune for online in your lobby.

Well, I can be mystaken...Since your tunes are absolutely amazing, maybe I just got lucky to find these results...Looks like I'll have a lot more testing to do before I can come to a valid conclusion..

You can test it and see this clearly tuning a FF car like a CIVIC or INTEGRA offline ,trying to let the car a bit agressive with no or less understeer.
Then go ONLINE and check the result.
Do a new tune ONLINE ,same way, and then go offline. The car will stay balanced with just a few more understeer.
To correct it, low the rear and/or raise the front of your car. That's all you need to fix to have a good car.

FR , MR , 4WD will show the same but for a FF the thing is BIGGGG :scared:

Have a good day.

I never really took notice of the tune issue online and offline, mostly have the same tune for both, I just adapted my driving style to suit the car.

For most cars below 500pp, I left them stock and race them that way online, much more fun.
If I want to use a particular car for online and it's hard to control then I would fit a full custom suspension.
Base line starting settings that I used on most cars before tuning further :

Neutral toe front and back 0 value, neutral camber 0 front and back. Softest spring rate possible, compensate a little for FR, FF and MR - if not sure use the spring rate of the stock suspension that came with the car for a start.
Softest damper compression 1 and 2 for extension.
Increase ride height about 10 - 20 mm to compensate for lowered stance of full custom
Stabilizers front 1 back 1.

The settings above would give most cars a very soft ride but a good starting point to get to know the cars characteristics.

I am writing too much now ... but mostly online I would prefer stock settings if the car have base power.

The car I used for testing is my Calsonic GT-R '08 with a monza tune. It felt very good offline and, when I went racing online, it just destroyed the opposition...In the first GT500 open lobby I went to, some guy kicked me out after I won 3 races in a row...Then, I joined some friends in a private lobby for a 14-lap race and won by 30sec...Tyre wear was great, also - I managed 8 laps with soft tyres, more than anyone else on track.

* Note to add: just remembered that my suspension settings are based on your Fuji Tune for the Yellowhat GT-R...maybe that's what caused the online/offline behaviour to be so similar?

Thanks a lot guys, especially praiano. You really helped me out here, and hopefully it helps others that will watch this thread, too. Thanks again.

Still, I don't like the fact there is a difference, but well. Seems like we can live with it!
