Opened a thread and the site autodownloaded something.

Opened that thread and I got an auto download of something called download. Listed the site as the source and I am pretty sure I have no malware as I have scanned with 3 anti virus/malware packages.

Bit concerned about that.

Scanned the file and AVG said it is safe but I dare not risk opening it.

what type of file?
Screenshot, and blur everything but the file and name and post it here.
Then people can help or explain.

I'm not seeing any prompts, either. What OS/browser are you using? How large is the file? Are you prompted to download it when you view the page again? Can you send the file to me via PM?

Did you press Alt accidentally, I don't know about other browsers, but if you click a link in Chrome with Alt pressed it'll download the URL rather than following it. In this case it calls it download.htm and it's perfectly safe.

Yep, that's what happened when I tried it. Assuming the user is using Chrome, this is likely it. Not sure if other browsers do it. I use Chrome.

I get that a lot on Chrome. It's a browser issue and not a site issue.
