How many Opeth fans do we have here? I can't get enough of them, being a guitar player their music (both the heavy and the soft) is pure genious. I have never heard anyone arrange and compose music the way they do. I can detect some of their influences from their music... like the beatles, camel, porcupine tree, morbid angel.. to name a few... but the way they put it all together so incredibly melodically and trippy never ceases to amaze me. The acoustic breaks which appear in so many of their songs, or even the entire song, blow my mind. After learning to play most of them I just think "How the hell did they think of this?? Good Lord..."

Anyone else into them? Any favorite albums? I like them all for different reasons, there really isnt a song of theirs that I can honestly say I dont like.

I have Blackwater Park, and I've heard a fair few other albums...I think "meh". They're not too bad until they get into the softer singing...I think they have potential to be a good Metal band without the soft singing. Much like Slipknot and a few other bands.

You like what you like I suppose. Although I don't think too many people on these forums would've heard of them, not a very well-known band to people that aren't too into metal. I'll give 'em a 5/10 for potential. ;)

Heh, fair enough. Its just a nice break from the norm for me. I love 60's 70's music like Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Camel, King Crimson... zepplin, floyd... And I can hear all those influences in Opeth's music. So Its a double treat for me, cause noone has ever done that before. Going from in your face metal to hippy acoustic guitars and vocals with a dark twist (in the same song) is my cup of tea! 👍
