Hey all, I'm thinking of buying a cable that can convert SCART/RCA to hdmi, so I can connect my ps2 to my monitor, and have all my gaming space in my desk. What I ask here if is there anything I should avoid, or look for. As I never used a signal converter, I noticed some options came with a power connector, being a converter that needs electricity, and other are just straight ony point in, other point out.

Has anyone here had any experience with this situation?

Keep in mind that it is analogue to digital conversion plus upscaling that you're talking about. That it can be done both poorly, and very well, is the reason why units like the XRGB Mini and OSSC exist. There is such a huge scope of what people will be happy with, and a range of gear to suit.

I'm a crazed CRT enthusiast. I love gaming in HD resolutions on CRTs, but for SD it's an absolute must. Failing having the option to use pro CRTs, and with a digital display as the only choice, I would use no less than the aforementioned processors. The price difference is huge, but you should at least know that those options exist before committing elsewhere.

..... is probably about as good as it gets for an SD (in this case 240p) image on a modern digital display. The OSSC can even replicate the 480i interlace effect or add vertical scanline spacing for 3:4 oriented games.

But don't mind me, I get excited. There's every chance that you're just after a basic conversion, and I've gone way overboard.

I have one of the units with a power supply, but I opted for composite/S-video to VGA. I specifically shopped for an HD monitor with a VGA port to use my PS2 and other older consoles with this converter. I figured an analog-to-analog deinterlacer would help minimize latency, and it turned out to be very very close to a CRT, more than adequate. There aren't any fancy options and I'm sure an XRGB offers better image quality, but for less than $50 it's great. I was concerned with latency first, image quality second.

I ended up choosing an Ambery converter based on user reviews I could find. The same company offers a box like mine that outputs HDMI; you would just need an adapter to connect the audio cables to the 3.5mm jack. However, I have no experience with their analog-to-digital converters, I can only tell you that mine is a good cost-effective solution.

Since you're already at VGA - if you are running any (supposed to be) 240p games, you might be interested in one of these.

That's nifty, but the converter already filters the image with some kind of high-res scaler, with no option to turn it off. It's not an ugly one IMO, though some artifacts occur. I usually prefer the original pixels in emulators, but it's interesting to get that kind of image straight from an NES.

Thank you all for the sugestions. though i noticed that through these otions, my explanation led to sugestions that while also interesting, to use in the future, its kinda older than what I want to convert

its to connect my playstation 2 with either

or

@Wolfe 's box does work though. would only have to get a audio adapter from a music equipement store or so, to get the sound to work, possibly on stereo.

Has anyone considered the PS2 to HDMI converter that is sold all over eBay?

I'm not sure what the quality is really like but apparently it's the best shot at getting a good picture.

There's every chance that the monitor will not accept 15kHz signals (480i/240p) via HDMI.

Maybe I'm not quite understanding you, but both the XRGB Mini and OSSC are very focused on RGB Scart to HDMI. Again, expensive options though.

Oh, sorry @LeMansAid , AS I was readingthe posts between you and wolfe's, I didn't search the options you wrote out, only opened the link about the screen scanner.

yeah, the xrgb prices are a bit woppiedooptie, but seartch by ossc i found some afordable options, lets just see if i can find a good deal.

True but I would assume most decent mainstream brands wouldn't have a problem with SD over HDMI. I did check mine for example and it says HDMI Input - (2D: 480i/480p/576i/576p/720p/1080i/1080p). I'm interested in what's happening in it's box and if any chip is being used to improve the component output which it is basically using.
