I am having trouble getting 5.1 working with GT5 via optical cable.

I had a similar issue with prologue. I had to disable everything (except the defaults obivously) and enable only the DTS to get sound out of it.

I have tried both DTS and Dolby Digital options by themselves and together and cannot get sounds out of GT5. I have also made sure the 5.1 options was selected in the GT5 options.

The only way I can get sound at the moment is to disable all of the 5.1 options and only use 2.1 Linear.

Anyone else having this problem or does anyone know what I could be missing?

You should always write down the names of your merchandise when asking these kinda questions..

My system works with 5.1 optical sound...

Is that a help? :<

Settings ingame says 5.1, and also in the menu (XMB)

Does it work in other games?

You checked if the cables to the rear speakers where loose in either ends?

You sure 5.1 is setup on the receiver and not locked on stereo ect.?

theres alot of options..

ofc depends what you answer to some of my first questions ^^

Yeah it works in other games. Like Prologue for example.

It's just the optical cable going into the sound card on my PC. The only issue I've ever had with it was with Prologue when I had to disable the Dolby Digital option in the XMB options (Leaving only DTS enabled) for it to work.

having a similar problem here

gt prologue would run great via optical with 5.1.

but gt5 not so much. not changed any settings and selected same as i did for prologue.

sony bravia, panasonic surround sound with 1000 watt kelton subwoofer

I'm using optical out on the ps3, converting to digital RCA into my amp and it works fine, apart from sometimes when it switches from race back to menu or when I hit pause, restart or it goes from trophy result back to the pre-race screen, I lose the sound. To get it back I have to switch to a different input on my amp and back to digital audio in source (ps3) and voila, sound is back again.

It is annoying but luckily it is not happening very frequently at the moment.

Um, THATS not good. I use AX Pro 5.1 headset, otherwise its crappy sound out of the back of my 40" Samsung.

strangely when playing gt and i go into the audio options. it says dts 5.1, maybe disable other options and only select ds 5.1. i remember a few games/ blu ray films being like this.... could work.

For me, GT5 is set to Living Room and my receiver (Sony STR-DE895) is running full 5.1 over optical just fine. Of course I just shut it all down but I can go see what all my options/settings are in a bit if needed.

The sound on my 4.0 setup is mainly coming from the rear speakers even if the car's engine is in front of me and does sound a bit muffled as well.

In GT5P it was much clearer and was either in front or behind depending on the car type.

I've played with the "Living Room/Theatre" settings to no avail and have left the type at Auto in the Option menu.

Anyone else having similar issues? I really don't want to disable the options in xmb as I use ps3 for blu-rays as well.

it could be something to do with your surround sound amp/Receiver?

ive got HDMI running to the tv, and Optical to the amp/Receiver and the 5.1 works automatically. best place to see if its working is check the opening vid, works find on there for me.

Good idea to check opening vid, thanks.

I've got HDMI to receiver and then HDMI to TV from there. Surround does work, it's just different from GT5P that's all. Might just be the way it's designed.

There seems to be various issues with the sound floating around.

Some people have suggested that they have reinstalled/even exchanged their disks to get the 5.1 to work. I don't really see how that matters but here's the link to where that is mentioned: http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/...-1-Audio-Issues-with-GT5/td-p/46446140/page/2

And just to be clear, in my particular case, it's not an issue of sound quality, but rather when either DTS or DolbyDigital is selected in the PS3 settings, I get no sound from GT5. Only when nothing but the defaults are selected do I get sound.

I spent a good 45 minutes trying different options yesterday, but finally decided to jsut play the game! I'll try a fwe other things today and post if I find anything else for those of you who are having this similar issue.

I have a Logitech Z 5500, I am having some problems, but just to reset the speakers and works fine.

Which is the best option, DTS or Dolby Digital?

OK, I finally got this figured out. However, it was very specific to my setup.

I will post the solution here for any future searchers who run into this issue.

The sound card I'm running the optical to is a Creative XFI. I have the optical cable running to the Optical In jack on the front bezel. There's a SPDIF input option that I can't seem to find in the Creative menus. I can only find it through windows.

1. Go into Control Panel/Sound/Speaker properties.
2. Click on the Sound Blaster tab.
3. Click the settings button.
4. On the SPDIF I/O tab, select DTS SPDIF-In decode on the SPDIF Input Settings drop down.

This made the sound start coming through.

As an extra reference: In my PS3 XMB settings I have DTS checked and everything else unchecked (Except the defaults obviously).
