The Canadian Rally Championship has a rule in place which states "studded tires are not allowed, unless otherwise permitted in the province's or municipality's jurisdiction."
Or, in other words, "'Finally but most importantly,' Pat says, 'select the right tires.' All of the tires that Rocket Rally use in their winter rallies are based on road-going winter tires."

Not everyone needs studded tires on the snow, at Chamonix or elsewhere. PD really should let us use tires with very, very little grip on snow and ice!
WRC is, in the opinions of most Canadians who are informed on the matter, much easier than CRC, because they get to use studded tires in WRC...
GT5 and GT6 had only studded winter tires available, which offer way more grip than is realistically available in my area of Canada.
The same goes for Rally America, who also can't use studded tires...
At 0:50 in that video, the commentator says "Over the next two days, the team will race 243 miles over snow and ice covered roads, without the use of studded tires."
No more studded-snow-tires only! What's one more choice of winter tires? Easy to model in, but very, very tricky! And tricky is fun!
