Did anyone else notice your car is about 30% the volume of other cars on the track.
Doing s-licenses, passing these super cars, I can't hear my own engine when i'm behind, in front, or side by side with another car.
Several times I mistook the sound of the car behind me for my own and mis-shifted sometimes.

Its seriously weird, my car is a low hum, other cars are roaring.

I mostly play in hood-cam, is it designed so you only hear your car in the cockpit view?

In hood cam you are in front of your exhaust. The exterior view is where you'll hear your car at the loudest volume.

Technically, PD is correct. Sound from behind the car will be way louder than from the front (you will hear less exhaust note when using bumper or hood cam). But the effect is sometimes (on some cars) too overpronounced. The Clio V6 suffered something similar in GT5P and it was patched out (spec III I think).

If you use HDMI then go to your XMB and tell allow the PS3 to receive instructions from your TV - that information will include the sound board type / speaker spread.

Often this fixes sound balance problems that don't seem to be fixable within a game's sound panel.

Yes noticed the same thing myself but TenEightyOne is correct, thats where I would go to change it if it became too distracting for me

we all love the sound of the cars from behind, which makes it so annoying while driving from cockpit or bumper cam, why cant the exhaust sound from the rear of the car be what we hear from the front. sounds soo much better.

Actually when i'm behind someone the sound is not as bad as when they're behind me, or side by side.

It just seems strange that when they pull up side by side, their engine noise completely drowns out my own. I can tell 100% when they shift, I have a hard time hearing my own shifting. Doesnt seem right.

Unfortunately i'm running hdmi converted to DVI into a computer monitor. It won't get the sound because it doesnt have the right converter plug, so i'm running sound out of the regular red/white cables into seperate speakers. This is probably making it worse, but it still seems that the sound balance coded into the game is off.

I can't tell when to shift w/o looking at the revs when I'm surrounded by other cars. This hasn't been an issue until the world series where you are against race cars. Why can't we get some sort of sound level adjustment????? I already had to give up the cockpit view due to the ridiculous bouncing. Now I'm going to have use automatic. :grumpy:

glad i found this, kinda lol. i am going nuts here trying to find a way to make my car louder. theres this other racing game i used to play that allowed you to balance out the engine sounds from your car and your opponent's cars. i cant believe this isnt more of an issue right now, instead people are crying over silly graphics and so on. I really dont wanna change to Automatic, but im gonna have to if this isnt fixed somehow.

+1. If we turn up the volume for the races then I still can't hear the car that well and between races I have to mute that god awful menu music because it's so loud!....I loved the way GT4 was set up for audio volumes!....my .02:)
