Just got an error opening a thread with about 300 replies, and a very long first post.

The error was "Out of Allocated Memory", and a page reference. I didn't write the rest of the error down, and it went away on the first page refresh, but I thought I'd mention it.

Did it look like this Giles?
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 184320 bytes) in /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/forum/admin/functions.php(324) : eval()'d code on line 64

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 6 bytes) in /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/forum/admin/functions.php on line 2436

Hey that happened to me too, with that same type of message, I had to get off of the internet and get back on for it to work without that message showing up.(at least I don't have dial-up)

Mine went like this. I couldn't even open the forums up without going through the "showthread" URLs:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 21360 bytes) in /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/forum/global.php on line 161

Could you please provide a link to this large thread you're trying to access, Giles?

Actually Jordan I don't think it is one particular thread, it just pops up at random times with me, I couldn't even get on GTPlanet.net for a few minutes just a while ago because of that message.

OK, I tried to fix this but I ended up killing the server. I'm going to see what the vB developers think about it. :indiff:

I was getting that same error message two or three hours ago. I just tried logging in now and everything is fine now.

I don't get the message. I just loose the whole server at random time and get a "page cannot be displayed" thingy. Thats usally last for hours.

Yes, that's a whole other issue. I'm having an incredible amount of trouble with the server...I've been wrestling with it ALL DAY.

is it a server error? i've been getting lots of too busy errors.

Yes it is a server error.

So whats happening?
The current PHP settings are not optimized for vBulletin, and the special circumstances it creates and the specific demands that it makes on the system.

Is the new server failing now? for what reason? to much site traffic?
No, the server is not failing, but the different services and programs that run on it are simply not optimized or configured to deal with the load of this site. That's what I'm in the process of correcting, slowly and painfully.

Well good luck, hope all goes well. Please keep us informed on the progress.

Well, if it's any consolation, I had a few minor issues on Friday, but since then everything seems to run fine from here.

Thanks Jordan!

Poop. It's happening again right now, but this time with more fervor.:(

Keep at it Jordan, it still isn't fixed yet. Any new updates regarding this problem, and how long it will take to fix?

Look at this pic for some motivation. It's the Prodrive Ferrari GTS 550 from this Sunday's race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It was damaged in the beginning of the race, and it still kicked the Corvette's butt. Remember, be like the Ferrari, be like the Ferrari, be like the Ferrari.:D

Yeah, I'm getting it too. I'll see what I can do...thanks for the picture! :)

Yeah I am getting it to Jordan, not meaning to repeat what everyone else has said, but this is what I have noticed.
1. It occurs after being logged in for at over an hour.
2. Mainly happens on threads that have just been replied to at first
3. After backing out and trying to go to other threads the same thing occurs.
4. Logged out, clear temp internet files, cleared history and delete all offline files. Re logged into GTP and it does it directly after the password prompt.
5. an Hour later everything is fine.

I hope that helps, I know you have said it was server side, but I just wanted to add that to let you know what has been done on the user side. Everything will get fixed, You did a wonderful job on switching servers and with new servers there will always be issues. Don't worry on being hasty, we would much rather see that everything is fixed properly if it takes a little time. :)
