overtaken during match start?

Hi Guys,

I've done some drugs in my life so to be sure i 'saw what i thought i saw' i'm trying to get someone to independantly confirm it ;)

Joined an online race and getting ready for the steer and throttle to become active in the startup phase. I was i guess number 8 in an 12 car lineup.
1 second after my controls were activated and before i can even pick up speed, one of the guys 2 or 3 places behind me blazes past me...

I'm quite sure i thought i saw the guy in the grid position behind me still waiting for his controls to become active yet the guy that sat beind him was already passing me?

Sorry i have no name, i was too baffled to take notice.

Has anyone else seen this, or was it just my imagination?

It happens with lag issues, because either the player had a bad connection or the host was having issues.

Hmm, maybe, but i'm not convinced.
If the host had problems, i should have noticed. Amd that guy having lag or a bad connection, i don't see how that would get his car accelerating while his pedals and steer should not yet function.

I know lag when i see it (since i've been gaming online for over a decade now). and i don't think that's i what i saw (but that doesn't much if you read my first post, lol ;))

But still, i don't know what it was, so you could still be right Ardius ;)
 
This happened to me about 10 days ago.

I was on HSR Beginner Sport race. I wasnt the host. Anyway immediately at startup phase, MY car starts off in 6th gear without my doing. I was using the BMW concept and was flying right out of the gate. I didnt notice any lag at the moment, but, before I knew it, I was approaching turn 1, with everyone else, WAY behind me just out of the gate.

I coasted thru til the approach of the starting/finishing straight, and just sat there for a few seconds, as for one, I didnt want to win that way, and 2, I was afraid someone would think I had some way of cheating. Anyway I just sat there until the pack approached and passed me for lap 1.

Havent seen that happen since, tho
 
I've been heavily closed up on during the pre-race rolling line-up. I figured it was lag.
 
Today i had a funny race. I started 1st, got pushed before start/finish line from the car behind and suddenly had a topspeed about 320 km/h. Just a second later there was a gap of 10 seconds between me and the field. I won the race by about 8 seconds.
So much for The Real Driving Simulator( beta) :dunce:
 
I had something similar happen to me on suzuka, I think I got rammed and sped up considerably. Unfortunately I started 15th so was still on the last chicane when it happened and took a swift diversion to gravel country.

Still I remember playing Race Driver 1 online and being overtaken at the start by a car that was rammed about a mile up in the air, so I suppose it could be worse :P
 
It happened to me a couple of times as well. I even heard of people crashing during startup because of crashing into a lagging player, putting them in last place. ;)
 
Hmm. Well if we want strange stories... I was at the grid on Fuji Pro in the middle of the pack. Perfect start, swerved around a few slower cars and got into first then I realised nobody elses car was doing anything, just stuck on the grid so I went back to the start and I could just push the cars about and allsorts. After a minute I got bored and quit :S

The same happened to me again today on Suzuki Pro, every car just rolled into the gravel on turn 1 and stopped and then the game disconnected. My best guess is that this happens to everyone at the same time due to a problem communicating with the host... maybe.
