A tragedy indeed. The owner was unfortunately killed in the accident. The passenger survived.

I believe this one used to be pink, and has only just been painted black. Owned by a wealthy property developer.

Not saying he deserved it, but 'reportedly' driving at high speed and not wearing his seatbelt? I don't have much sympathy, i'm afraid.

It only goes to show that no matter how safe and thoroughly well engineered the machine is, it can't fully protect the fragile human body. The seat belt, with all it's inherent simplicity, is a vital safety equipment and could have saved a life there.

R.I.P.

R.I.P.

Speed limits are usually there for a reason though, that kind of thing should only be done on a track.

The carbon fibre shell at the core of the Zonda is unbelievably strong. I remember someone crashed one of these things at 200mph and walked away. If he had been wearing his seatbelt, which it would appear he wasn't, I can guarantee he would have escaped this with only a scratch or two - R.I.P :(

You can't guarantee that, unfortunately. The Zonda that wrecked before had the "fortune" of side-swiping a guardrail, colliding next to the Benz, & spinning to a stop. This guy plowed straight into a metal fence.

His seatbelt probably would have saved his life, but he would have been injured beyond a scratch; even the passenger suffered injuries.

The fact that the passenger walked away and the driver's body was found 10ft away shows the importance of seatbelts.

Well, look at the damage, if that man were properly secured, he might have stood up once again.

I rather dislike when people don't wear seatbelts, what do they think it's there for? It can mean the difference between this, and waking up in the hospital room with your family. A true shame, and a lesson people shouldn't have to learn. RIP.

That, and also messing around on a public road in the first place, not only potentially putting other road users in danger but pedestrians also.

👍
I trust NO ONE when I'm driving. Sorry to hear that he died, but if he had used his brain this could have been prevented. R.I.P.

Even slower speed collision could take someone's life if not using seat belts, poor guy made a mistake, the worst mistake. RIP.

Exactly. These machines are engineered with the safetly of the seatbelt to save your life. Passenger not wearing seatbelt lived. Driver not wearing seatbelt and ejected from car died. Someone traveling at high speed and not wearing a seatbelt it pretty much an attempt at suicide.

I do realize a seatbelt wont always save your life.

Seat belts should be worn in every occasion especialy in a car that Powerful . RIP

From the linked news story saying he was driving at high speed, lost control, span and crashed into a fence, I'd guess he was driving at high speed, lost control, span and crashed into a fence.

Just a hunch.

Every time there are serious injuries or fatalities in a car crash here (S'pore), I always wonder if seat belts were used.

It's odd that, in local press, only certain incidents warrant mentions of seat belt usage.

Should have wore a seat belt, sad news either way though. Could the passenger possibly be one of the millions of car spotters that hang out in London?

It frustrates me when these things happen. So many people out there who have no right to drive let alone something as intricate and as unforgiving as a Zonda.

I ride a motorbike and although I do ride faster than I should I am all to aware of the dangers and how vulnerable I really am.

When I am in the car with the GF, I always wear the seat belt even though I have metal around me.

Sad that the chap died and I am sorry for the family but at least if you insist on breaking the speed limit and showing off in your car wear a seat belt!!
