Do you think a paid name change is a good idea?

  • It doesn't really bother me.

Just an idea:

Would it be out of the question to have a new 'feature' (couldn't think of a better word) that let's you change your username every month (or 2) at a cost. Say, maybe, 3 or £4?
Or perhaps it could get limited to once per 3+months.
And, it could get limited to people who have, say, 700+ posts (to stop trolling through n00bs constantly changing their names).

I'm sure it would get used pretty frequently, plus it would generate easy money for GTPlanet/Jordan.

It seems like it's, IMO, an obvious idea - and it's seems like a waste, only letting Premium members do it (once every 360 days).

I'll add a poll for the sake of it.

Easy money.

Why would someone want or need to change their username once a month?

Premium alone is a paid subscription whereby one can change their username, but in this case it's once a year.

It doesn't have to be once per month, it could be 3-4 months.

Plus, like Avatars, people get fed-up fast.

I think Jordan works hard enough already, without dealing with this pain in his ass.

How would an implemented feature be a pain in the ass (post-instalment)?
If all you need to do is enter your card details and change your u/name?

We don't encourage username changes at all because your username is, more than any other part of your presence here, you.

GTP is a community, rather than a chatroom. A community is built through familiarity and familiarity isn't bred by not knowing who someone is because they've changed their username. Again. It's bred through familiar names and faces...

There are occasions where a username change is apt - streamlining usernames across communities, for example, or a common use of the new name (like folk calling neon_duke "Duke" for years) - but general the same old faces have had the same names since... ever.

The reason Premium members have the privilege? They're becoming more integrated in the community - generally Premium members participate more and in more areas of the site (aside from the obvious Premium area) - and a new username that they've thought over rather than the one they smashed in when faced with the initial "PICK YOUR USERNAME NOW! NOOOOOOOOOOW!" box will help them develop their GTPersonality.

It would take work to implement for something that would provide little gain. Very few members would pay to use such a service, the way it works currently for premium members (with name changes coming as part of the package of being a premium member) is more than adequate.

Once again - can't argue with Famine logic. :p
I understand fully what you're saying, and it pretty much nullifies the OP.

Instead of me locking up - would you mind simply deleting the whole thread?
Thanks in advance.
