Hello, I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. I searched for about two hours last night on information or opinions about the Panoz Esperante but I finally gave up and decided to ask, sorry if it's been posted but I honestly looked hard. I gave the "My favorite car" thread a good look over and did not see anyone mention the Panoz, is this a sign that I should not spend my hard earned money on this $4,000,000 beast? I have spent the last three days earning/saving for it but want to make sure its worth my cash, I basicly need the car for the first American race against the Chaparral 2J and the last professional race, ( Can this car compete against the P1/P2 Cars?) I only have 26.5% of the game completed. Right now I prefer the way the Nissian 350Z LM car handles and have been winning a lot of endurance races with it, I would hope that the Panoz would have around the same level of balance between the understeer/oversteer. If this beast is a bit sluggish and needs tuning I would also appreciate a link to a balanced tuning guide if available.
( This is not a tuning request this is a opinion request and since I have heard no opinions on this car thus far I expect it is sluggish and needs major tuning, but I hope I'm wrong.) Any help would be appreciated, I have watched this car battle many a Porsche on the GT2 series circuit and have fell in love with it, I would enjoy racing it in GT4. If you all come to conclude that this car is no good then what should I race with to beat the 2J? The Team Oreca Viper is another favorite of mine and I didn't see too many opinions on that either. ( I suspect the major understeer is still present?) Thank you for your help.

the panoz has never been "one of the best cars" in the gt series. It is said to be too expensive for what it offers by many gt players.

I don't remember what I used for that race, perhaps I haven't done it yet..

The best car is the pescarolo that costs 4'500'000, the one with the most BHP's, but it isn't an American car..

Duck7892
Zardoz made an excellent write-up on comparing a lot of Le Mans cars on Circuit de la Sarthe, including the Panoz Esperante.
Here it is: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61921
He also tested the GTS cars, and the Oreca Viper performed better than the Esperante.

Hope this helps,
Duck7892

I was preparing the same link when I saw it was already answered. 👍
So, like Duck7892 I would advise you to read this excellent write up.

I haven't bought the Panoz yet, but if it handles like in GT3, I would bet it doesn't worth the 4.500.000 credits
If I refer to Zardoz's write up, I would say that the corvette is as quick, and costs only 1.000.000 credits. I bought this car for some American races, and I enjoy driving it, of course it won't compete with LMP cars, but it's not supposed to (and it's 4,5X cheaper !).
Like Gibus, I would advise you to buy a real LMPif you intend to spend 4.500.000. The pescarolos are good, but so are also the BMW V12 LMR, Audi R8 or the GT one. The Mazda 787 B is good also, and costs 3.5M.

Hope it helps,

Snypa

The Panoz is a totally different animal this time around. The stock suspension setup is excellent. Take off driving aids except for traction. Adjust to suit your driving style. It has enough torque to rip a house off it's foundation. :) Fast car but not for the price. In the 4,500,000 range, it'll get beat by just about any other car costing that much. But it's still good enough for sub 6 min laps on the ring without modifications. The response can seem a bit twitchy at first, until you get used to the handling. I'd say it's a 'must have' but only after you've used that money to buy some of the other LMPs. Very fun car to drive, PD fixed this car from GT3.

i remember driving this car from GT3, it had a great engine sound and I liked the look of it, it didn't have as much grip as the LMP cars or JGTC cars but it was well balanced, i havent driven it in GT4 yet but i am looking forward to

I haven't raced it or paid off the 4.5M Cr. price tag, but from past GT games, this was one of the more unique race cars, looking like a mid-engined beast, but is front-engined. Even their LMP racer had the unique front-engine element. This car has a nice roar to it from when I've raced against it in endurances. Since it isn't a beast in the Gran Turismo World Championship, I can tell you this. If you're looking to complete the All-American Championship and you want the best American race car money can buy, this might be the car for you. I think I won the series with the Camaro Race Car that I won from the Camaro Meeting (I believe it was the race).

So even if you're not sure how it will perform, get it anyways. Instead of getting into the car in GT Mode, try it out in Arcade Mode. Pick your favorite track (granted it's not an off-road course), then race around it. If you're happy with the results, then feel free to use it to race to victory. Remember, if you buy a car not present in Arcade Mode, you'll unlock it in Arcade Mode as soon as you buy it. Keep racing until you feel it cannot be your weapon of choice against the competition.

well, i hate panoz becuause it really hard to win against 2J in america chamption however The Team Oreca Viper can beat 2J, 4.5 million (panoz) and 1 million (viper)?? so i guess price didn't mean it that GOOD or BAD (depent)

I enjoy driving it.

Although it seems like a car to compete with the LMPs, its better suited against the F1 GTR, CLK-GTR, Viper GTSR, and Corvette C5R.

Forget the Panoz for now. Get it much later, just for fun.

Get the Team Oreca Viper instead. Use this setup:

SR - 16.0 / 14.0
RH - 60 / 65
SB - 6 / 7
SR - 7 / 8
C - 2.0 / 2.0
T - 0 / 0
S - 5 / 6
BB - 4 / 2
DF - Max

ASM - 0 / 0
TCS - 7

LSDI - 5
LSDA - 25
LSDD - 10

Use the "tranny trick" to set up the transmission:
__________________________

To set up their transmissions, a lot of Gran Turismo players use the old GT3 "Tranny Trick": Slide the Final adjuster full right to 5.000 (or 5.500 on some cars). Now slide the Autoset full right to 25, then back full left to 1 and leave it there. Your six-speed (or five-speed) now has a nice set of evenly-spaced close-ratio gears, and you didn't have to tediously set each individual gear ratio.

Now go back and set the Final ratio for each track. You want to redline in sixth gear just before your braking point on the longest straight. Its not a bad idea to make note of the Final for each track with each car you set it for, so you won't have to spend time testing for it again.

The Viper is a little faster than the Esperante and you can buy four of them plus an Opel Astra Touring Car for the price of the Panoz. Use your leftover 3,500,000 for a Mazda 787B.

Forget that, Doc. You have better things to do with your time. Do this, instead:

"B-Spec Spamming The DTM"

Do you know about the DTM trick to pile up big bucks in a hurry? If not, here it is:

Run the second Special Condition (Easy) Rally d' Capri race twice, using the best car you have with Racing Medium (or Soft) tires, and sell the two Toyota RSC Rally Raid cars you'll win. Go to Germany and buy an Opel Astra Touring Car. Buy the Stage 3 NA upgrade. After an oil change you'll have 654 HP. Use this chassis setup:

http://www.gtvault.com/SetupDisplay.cfm?SetupID=0202J844508E887CA06240441

Use those settings, but turn the TCS up to 7. I also use the Tranny Trick from GT3: Move the Final drive full right to 5.00. Move the Autoset slider full right to 25, then full left to 1, and leave it there. This gives your 6-speed the closest possible set of gears. Now adjust the Final drive for each track, or put it at 3.85 for all the DTM events if you're lazy.

Now go to the European Events and enter the Astra in the Deutsche Touring Car Meisterschaft (DTM), or, in English, the German Touring Car Championship.

B-Spec every event. Set the speed at 4, and leave "Overtake" on. Click R1 to display the map, then click and hold L1 while you D-Pad right to change the speed to x3, or three times normal. The first event on the Opera course is the toughest, but you may be able to get away with setting the speed at "5" for that race. Your B-Spec driver may still lose it even on "5", but he'll breeze through the other four races and win the series overall. Each event will only take about three minutes. If you choose to monitor things, you can blow through it all in about 17 minutes. When the prize money starts being awarded, press X or Start to speed up the process.

The prize car's resale value is 743,749. You get 15,000 for winning each event, and 75,000 for the championship, so your total haul for less than 20 minutes is 893,749.

Best of all, you can do other things while your B-Spec driver is piling up cash for you, like eating dinner or sorting socks.

Repeat early and often, again and again, as many times as you want. I like to go through it three times while I'm getting ready for work. That's about 2,700,000 without even playing. At that rate, you can collect a bunch of very expensive cars in a hurry. Keep in mind that you're putting wear and tear on your car, so you might want to give it an oil change and buy the Rigidity Refresher Plan after every three or four times you run the event.

(Use your pile of cash to get an Audi R8, BMW V12 LMR, '04 Pescarolo, or perhaps an '03 Pescarolo. The '03 version gets great tire life, giving it a big advantage over other Prototypes. Whichever one you get, you can leave the suspension settings stock, turn off ASM, buy Stage 4, the chassis stiffener, and R1, R2, and R4 tires, and have fun.)

"B-Spec Spamming The El Capitan 200 Enduro"

Once you've completed 25% of the game, the Enduro Events hall is unlocked. The El Capitan 200 is an easy one to win, and the prize is the fastest car in the game (other than the Formula One), the Minolta Toyota 88C-V. Win one and keep it, of course, then sell the ones you win from B-Spec spamming for 743,749 credits each. You also get 250,000 for the win, so your take is 993,749.

Race tires are not permitted, so just put Sport Hard tires on a car that will run off and hide from the fast exotic street machines that are in this event. I use the heavily-upgraded Z06 I won the Supercar Festival with, but you can use anything you like. One of the many CLK-GTR race cars you get from DTM spamming will lap the field several times, of course. Set the speed on "3", turn "Overtake" on, and it will be an unfair walk-over for your B-Spec driver. Remember to occasionally change the oil and buy the Rigidity Refresher Plan to keep your car in good shape.

The advantage of this stunt is that it is only one single race, so you can start it and walk away. Run it while you're asleep, or at work or school, and you'll be a millionaire with zero time or effort. And, of course, there is no limit on the number of times you can do this. Just remember to hit "Clear" when the choice comes up at the start each time, or you won't get a thing!

Thank you fellas, the help is greatly appreciated. I must ask though, on the instructions for the "tranny trick" it gives the command "back full left to 1 and leave it there." I'm sorry but I'm not sure what that means.

I beat the hard American ones with a Ford GT 05, but don't forget to put racing tires on it as it's virtually uncontrollable otherwise, well in my opinion :)

This car absolutely rocks! 👍 It is easily the most stable car at Nurburgring I have yet driven, which includes the Polyphony Formula. Seriously, on the back straight is is like an Amtrack at 215mph, RIGHT down the center of the road and squarely under the bridge without a shudder, through the esses and across the line to give this modest driver a first lap 6'49.185, not too bad for a test run. Oh, and that was after adjusting ONLY the suspension. There is no way any Camaro or Viper is going to give you a ride like that...

Here is a tune I've just posted for it:

After doing the final gear ratio (FGR) step, you slide autoset to 25, then to 1. Then you're done with the autoset unless you want to go back to transmission settings that doesn't use the tranny trick. Then you mess with the FGR so it hits the redline of the last gear at the end of the longest straight of the track you are tuning for.

Unless I am mistaken, the Panoz is used in the Infineon Super license test. If you liked the way it handled there you will probably like it in other races. I personally think there are better cars in the game for the same or less money.

I believe the Audi R8 is in the Infineon S-License test, not the Panoz...

You're probably right... I can't check as I'm at work and at home I'm in the middle of a 24 hour race so I can't check there either for several more days. :guilty: Darn, I thought that would be a good way to check one out...

I found the best way to beat the 2J is to make sure it's not in the race. :)

That's the best advice in the thread. I tried the Panoz. While I didn't find it as unruly as it was in GT3, I wouldn't exactly call it nimble either. I felt like it could be tuned though, but then I would have to keep it. (damn auto-save) 👎

I agree with all the Oreca Viper recommendations. It's the best car under 3,500,000 cr (IMO).

p.s. Why is it whenever someone asks about a car, someone ends up giving instructions on how to "b-spec spam the DTM"? :irked:

Because that special someone thinks we enjoy his prosaic diatribes the way he does?

Or is it because Doc doesn't know about it, and, if you just read what he said, spent three days just trying to come up with the cash for the Panoz? Give the man a break. Let him in on the gimmick. Do you feel we should have kept it a secret from him?

Until Duke another mod tells me to stop, I'll keep copying and pasting it. Takes me all of five seconds.

Forget spending 1 million for the American GT Series, just use the Camaro LM from Camaro Meeting. Fairly close competition, but still easy to win. I got a lot of nice photos from the El Capitan race. :sly:

I'm starting to want the Panoz now...I think I'll do the El Capitan enduro once this weekend, then everyday before I leave for school. I prefer not to be using B-spec when I am around. Any suggestions for cars on that one, that will be competitive? I tried with a tuned Evo, but I couldn't hold up with the tire wear. That was against that 500hp cheater Elise, though...But my tires were only lasting around 8 laps...(sport hard)

well i got almost all the Le Mans Race Cars in the game so i guess now i guess i can get the Panoz for myself n drive crazy laps at infineon n laguna n high speed ring n oh yes Sarthe 2 n the RING..y cuz thats how i test cars..all those tracks got different enviroments
