If you’re interested in clean and laid back racing using production cars then Thursday evening’s may be right for you. Every Thursday evening from 7-10 EST Parcells hosts a friends only lobby where we run cars directly from the Manufacturer, no upgrades, add an oil change and race the bastards.

The rules are very simple, we have only 2 of them…
  1. Don’t be a dick
  2. Drive clean

Format:

Each week we choose 2 cars to run and race each for 1.5 hours. The tracks can be predetermined OR voted for the night we race them. ANYONE can submit a car to run for a given week and if you choose the car you also have the privilege of choosing what tracks you want to run or we can simply pick the tracks come race time it’s your call. Usually run anywhere between 5-7 races with each car.

There are no upgrades or tuning allowed but if the consensus is to use a different tire compound than the default that can happen. Typically we just leave the default tire as-is. All cars also require an oil change.

The cars and tracks for each week will be documented in the second post of this thread.

Room Settings:

Basically everything is at the highest SIM setting. Vehicle tuning is prohibited. You can use any assist you like except for Skid recovery which is forced off. Grid order is reverse of previous race results and penalties are left OFF (random ghosting sucks).

General notes of interest:

  1. Each race runs anywhere between 8-15 minutes. The fewer people the shorter the race will be. Try to provide enough laps for the faster guys to get to the front of the field in a clean and orderly fashion.
  2. You’ll need to be a friend of “Parcells2” to join the friends only room. I check my PS3 messages before I open the lobby each week (ONLY before - 9 times out of 10) for new friend requests.
  3. Anyone can submit a car/track combo via PM or post your request in this thread.
  4. Parcells needs to approve each car entry before it is accepted. I will approve every request unless it’s a car we’ve a) recently run b) too expensive (discretionary – cant have overly expensive cars every week) or c) A car Parcells really despises – artistic impression if you will.
  5. If no requests are received for a given week Parcells will choose the car and/or tracks. You won’t be disappointed…most of the time.
  6. Parcells reserves the right to alter any or all of the above/below rules/guidelines as he sees fit with or without sufficient warning to participants.
General notes of interest/non-interest:
  1. We take our racing serious but the goal is fun via close clean racing. If you need to win every race don’t bother showing up.
  2. At this point in time we have about 6 regulars and 5-6 semi regulars leaving us with 8-10 racers most weeks. If or when we start getting a full room with consistent regulars I may restrict it to a predetermined list but for now it is first come first serve.
  3. We’ve been doing this since GT5 was released. We are a mature group (chronologically speaking) with an average age closer to 50 than any other decade.
  4. We do use mics and use them frequently as the primary goal is to have fun while racing cleanly with friends. As such there is plenty of friendly banter and of course plenty of trash talking so be forewarned.
  5. It’s fair to say the majority of our cars to-date have been the slower or middle of the road variety. However race and especially touring cars have been very popular.

If you have any questions about anything feel free to contact me via PM or post.

Reserving just in case I forgot something in the planning stage. This should cover me in the unlikely scenario a second secondary post is required to manage this series which in itself is highly doubtful as the format is so simple it basically runs on auto-pilot. So there’s really nothing more to this post its surprising you paid attention this long having read the first sentence.

Shameless bump time.

This recruiting effort isn’t going as well as I thought it might or could have. Hmmm, maybe it’s the abrupt tone of the message? Nah, that can’t be it?

Maybe I could entice people by offering cookies or cake?…Nah screw that if the clean and friendly racing theme doesn’t interest you the sun will still rise tomorrow.

Having raced in these before, I can attest that its good times for all. I'm not sure if I'll make it tomorrow night but will be there if I can.

Perhaps the best marketing tool is footage of one of our closer races....

second post updated with this week's cars/tracks. Re-using the G37 this week as numerous room issues were experienced during the first half of last Thursday.

Hey, what's going on here? people responding to Parcells thread maybe this recruiting effort will pay off in the end after all? Although hitting 13 participants this past week doesn't leave too many openings.

I told you guys the stupid oval race we did would be more fun than you thought, not very often 6th place is barely 2 tenths a second off first place eh? That was entertaining just a bit!

Parcells is half way through a 2 week vacation with a decent hangover so unless circumstances change for the better later today this weeks cars probably won't be announced until Tuesday or even Wednesday evening after I get back from a 2 day golf excursion.

Unless of course if anyone wishes to pick this weeks cars, that can be arranged. Was driving the new Nissan GT3 car (think is was GT3 class???) a few days ago and that was nice but we just drove a similar GTR like car last week so maybe too soon? Also leaning towards choosing a semi-unofficial KART car that we can take out any given Thursday for ***** and giggles when the mood strikes us...the Senna KART seems a good candidate for that job.?

Seems like a lot of work finding a new car mid-vacation so tomorrow we'll be going with some fan favorites (aka Parcells favorites) and we'll just wing it. If I picked the right KART (one with manual gearing) that will become the semi-unofficial KART car for Thursday nights when the mood hits us for some KART racing.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Parcells is taking a two week sabbatical from Thursday evening racing. No specific reason beyond it’s time for a small break. See you in 2 weeks on August 28. I “might” be on-line either night but it would be to test cars for future weeks.

Very surprised when I realized this is the first Subby that doesn't accept dirt tyres.

so we substituted Toscana with High Speed Ring and proceeded to have one of those truly memorable races. How no one got thrown off the track was quite spectacular because most turns had 2 and 3 wide it was insane but spectacular!

8 of us running a 6 or 7 lap race, jostling for position was rampant. I'm positive I was in every postition (1-8) at least twice throughout the race and thought I had a decent chance for a podium when the last lap started but sadly (not really sad, was the funnest race of the evening) finished second last...check out the partial finishing order below (actual values)

6th place - 0.378 seconds behind first
7th place (me) - 0.789 seconds behind first

Heading to Florida very very early Friday morning for a week of golf with too much to do Thursday evening so Parcells Thursday night production lobby will be on hiatus until October 9.

That was definitely one of those classic races Brnt, thanks for posting.

Still recovering from vacation so this week we will be racing but will use the one-make vehicles and just pick whatever tracks we want. Rest assured the Quattro Pikes Peak car will be a chosen vehicle.

see you tomorrow.

Quattro Pikes peak car sucked! But we had one hell of a race at Spa with a different vehicle!!!

Going old school this week guys...actually tested these cars. Sure it only took 15 minutes but these are fully vetted cars and tyres, trust Parcells and dont forget your oil change.

Going old school again boys, actually tested these cars. In fact I have tested our next 10 cars or so and it's time to step it up a bit. It's time to start purchasing some of the more expensive cars...I have 3 million dollar vehicles lined up over the next month or thereabouts starting with the most expensive (1.2 mil) Opel touring car this week.
