Hi guys was after some advice here!

I created an account for my son last night as he was fed up playing on his mums account and wanted to use his cheesyfarts email :dopey: anyway I created the sub-account no problem but when he tries to get online with COD the parental restriction kicks in and blocks him from playing online! When I created his account I put in his valid date of birth in the sign up for the account ( 1997 ) and after trying everything it seems this is the culprit denying him access to online battles!

I even turned the parental control fully off in the master account but with still no joy! my question is ... is it possible to change the date of birth on the sub-account? it has options for changing the name etc... but nothing for the age!
I see on the COD4 case it has a 16 year old rating and with my lad only being 10 does he have to wait 6 years to use that account:p
Thanks in advance for any answers 👍
Cheers
Ron.

Don't get me wrong, but 10 years might be a little too young for COD4, 12, ok, but 10, I don't know...
I'm really not one of those radical people, but cod4 is full of brutality and violence... since I study medicine I know quite a bit of psychology as well, and I really can't recommend it. Of course the date of birth is not everything that counts, but 10 year old boys are not what I'd call mature and at that age the influence of violence is strongly influencing your brain.

Also, god, do I hate those little kids in COD4, no sense for tactics and talking BS all the time.... and as it seems, it's YOUR FAULT... damn you :p:D

I guess it would be easier tjust to make another account with a higher age but the age limits are there for a reason.... COD sometimes shocks me and im 21!

I agree with the above 2, why would you want him to play CoD when he is 6 years under the age restriction for the game.

They live in Manchester. COD is like nursery* school in comparison.

* kindergarten

it doesn't matter. if they're going through an AMERICAN OL server, then there's every reason the barriers will be up...and hard.

and I thought we in the states had a hard time with Age restrictions :P

Wow! I never expected this :p ... I obviously should be hung drawn and quartered eh ;)

My lad is a mature 10 year old and he has been playing quite a bit on COD last few months .. he even has a 23 kill streak :p anyway I dont mind him playing and prefer him in the house playing games he likes than roaming the streets bashing old grannies with some of the other youngsters that live Manchester!

Also if we were all to go by the age restrictions on games then most of you would never have played the Resident evil or Silent Hill games when you were at school :p

Never really got an answer to my problem .. but a nice bit of criticism will do all the same and you know what you can do with it .. make a sentence out of these words ... stick, sun, shine ;)

Thanks for the lecture you perfect people 👍

I for 1 didnt play those kinda of games whilst at school, namely because my parents were a bit stricter than most. And about being a mature 10 year old. Theres nowt mature about being 10, being mature at 10 is acting like a 13 year old. Doesnt make em mature enough for a game rated 16/18.

And I am sure you can use your words to make a sentence of your own.:)

I will be the judge of what games my kids can play simple as that!
I came in here with a question! I never came in here to get a lecture about whats right and wrong and what I should and shouldn't do! Certain members around here think they are specialists in life before their nuts have even dropped! :dopey:

So .. Lets agree to disagree and keep your lessons on parenting to yourself until you have your own to monitor 💡

I dont need to keep my lessons on parenting to myself for when I have my own, Its just simple stuff such as, ratings are there for a reason.

I don't have a problem with it  its just a game and unless he is having something crazy like nightmares or something I wouldn't be too worried and you are the parent and it is your decision. The game is 18+ in Canada, I am 16 but I play it, should my parents be worried, I don't think so, but at the same time 16 is alot older than 10. I remember play GT3 when it came out and I was only 10, my parents just talked to me and my brothers about it and I turned out fine.

For the parental control, I think you might be able to change whether or not there is the age limit thing through the Master Account setup. Other than that you could create a new PSN for your son with a different age so he can play.

I think you must have had your action man confiscated the day after christmas because it was associated with war :p
COD is not as bad as some of the games on the market and you are dragging this on when it concerns my son and not yours .. so I again say its up to me to decide if he can play my games or not, take that as my final response to you on this matter! But no doubt you want the final word ...

Well since he already played it for months it's too late anyway ;)

So as it has been said above, create a new account, it's for free, takes about 5 min, no big deal...

Leave it out, folks. Mr P actually plays these games. Who could possibly be a better judge of suitability than a completely informed parent? It's the ones who get dragged into GAME/EB to buy GTASA for their 8 year old, with no knowledge of what it is beyond "a computer game", that need a prod.

This is the final word on the matter of Mr P's kids playing the games Mr P lets them play.

Now, can we actually help him out with his question?

Thanks for the links Dan .. very informative and pretty much what I expected 👍 It looks like I will have to create a new account for him and make him appear 18 to be able to play online with the games I condone ;)

Good to see Andrews opinion regarding parental choice also ;)
Cheers guys!

I can't believe this has caused such a fuss. The thing that causes the problems with children playing game is that some children find it hard to differentiate between games and real life. This is a surprisingly small number of people from what I am aware, so as a child who played Grand Theft Auto III at the age of 10 or 11ish, I can confidently say I was capable of telling the difference between game and reality. Now I am pretty sure I wasn't the only 10 year old who happend to be able to play violent video games without any issues, I can't see why many people see a problem here.

Call of Duty in particular may have a lot of violence and mild gore, but this isn't exactly the exorcist.

Does it actually lock him out of playing the game at any time or just online? (just curious how it works)

hope it worked out.

but "before their nuts have even dropped" is a bit harsh, don't you think? and like I said...America has paranoid standards. Gen X parents are being over protective here in a lot of places, because the late Baby Boomers were too lenient, apparently :P
