No, it is American and not some foreign family name since his side of the family has been in the states since before the Civil War. It is not meant to be pronouced Yawn.

Typically it is a female name that is short for Janet or Janice or anything else like that, but his is just Jan. I never had more fun making fun of him than when he dated a Janice who demanded to be called Jan.

Of course his middle name is Garth, so I guess his parents were just mean.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't anyone from my family. I have a few fancy relatives who've travelled all over Europe and South America adn such, but their kids (my cousins, and they're about 25) all went to college here in the States. There's actually more Rosenkranzes out there then I though there was. People always spell my name with a -tz, since my dad pronounces it the proper German way, where a "z" makes a "tz" or "ts" sound, and therefore everyone thinks my dad is the mayor of a nearby city, who's name is Rosenkrantz. That's a little weird, but my dad definitely isn't government material. Even just give him a choice of restaurants and he says "I don't care."

I like Enzo. My wife keeps doing that thing girls do where they try and come up with kids' names years before you have them and since she won't let me use my Great Uncle Nut's name (family name, not a nickname) maybe she will let me use Enzo. She likes the slightly different names like that and being in America it will definitely be different. She also won't realize where I got it from until it is too late.
