GT4genius or GTP_...
I didnt want to start a new thread for this, and couldnt really find a thread to post in, but the title to this kind of somes it up so...
I'm using Google Chrome and recently I've noticed that on this site, and this site only, the loading circle in the top left corner doesnt stop spinning, and it says down in the bottom corner that its waiting for d1.openx.org, whats this all about? Is there a way to stop it? Thanks. BTW, it is a great site and I've never had any problems until now.

Stops for me, one way to stop it is pressing the stop button...I use mozzila but once the site is loaded you can just press stop and it comes up with the little icon.

Jordan would prefer it if you made a new thread for each issue. It's easier for him to track.

Try starting a new thread for your problem. 👍

It doesnt seem to effect Firefox, so maybe its a problem on my end. So I thought I better try and rule that out before starting a new thread. I'll try and reinstall chrome tomorrow and see if its better, thanks for both of your help. 👍

Yes, please always make a new thread for unique issues...that's what threads are for. Anyway, are you still experiencing this problem? OpenX.org is actually GTP's advertising server. It's hosted by a large organization, and I would be very surprised if it was unreachable or offline. It was probably a temporary issue, as I see no problems at the moment using Chrome.

I can actually see d1.openx.org loading if I watch Chrome's status 'tab' in the bottom left corner of the browser window - it doesn't take more than a second. Can you ping openx.org, or load their website?

Package 2 exceeded time limit. So in 4 sent packages, only 3 were received.

I tried with Internet Explorer 8 and it concludes the load of the page, but it doesn’t show any add.

Ah, interesting. Perhaps their network provider is having some kind of trouble with European delivery.

I was going to try and install Chrome again to see if it fixes the issue, because I dont have the same problem on firefox, but that maybe just because firefox realised it cant load the link. Is that what you are saying Lds?

I use Chrome too, and I have been seeing the spinning circle up at the top for the past couple weeks, I figured it wasn't that big of an issue, but I've noticed that Chrome is crashing more often, and I think that this might be the root of the problem. I hope it gets resolved quickly.

Yes. It happens the same thing in Internet Explorer, has it happens in Firefox (maybe). It realizes it cannot open the link. Can you see any add with Firefox? I can’t with neither Chrome nor IE8

I believe it can be some problem with openx, but it has been this way for some weeks, and that is very strange for a large organization.

I can now confirm this is an issue with OpenX's hosting/network infrastructure that is affecting many other sites. Sorry for the inconvenience, I will keep you guys updated.

So its been a while, but is there any update on the issue Jordan? I'm still not getting ads, and Chrome keeps showing the spinning loading disc thing.

Yeah, OpenX did have some issues with their load balancing, but this should have been cleared up last week. I'm still not having any problems loading ads in Chrome. Are you using any other type of software that would prevent you from loading advertisements? Can you ping d1.openx.org? Can you load ads on the GTPlanet homepage?

I have AVG and Spybot S&D running in the background, but they're pretty much dormant. I don't see how they could be causing any issues though.

I've been having the same problem using Chrome, but I don't have ads being Premium. Lately, the spinner hasn't stopped spinning for some pages and the page only loads down to the last post, so "quick reply" and everything below it don't load.

Eh, really? :indiff: There is no reason that should occur. I checked with a Premium test account and every thread loaded quickly in Chrome.

It could be an unrelated issue too. The internet at Hope isn't exactly the most reliable thing ever. I just thought I might point it out while other people were having the same issue at the same time.

It isn't anything consistent either. I think it's happened on two separate occasions so it wasn't exactly a concern.

Any luck on finding out the problem? I just thought I should mention here as well. I had Premium for a month, a great member got it for me kindly, and I will be buying it as soon as I get a credit card. But is it possible that when I had Premium the adds were disabled, but now that I'm back to normal some sort of glitch has occurred where the adds are still disabled but are trying to load regardless. Just a thought, probably wrong. 👍

Ah, I didn't know you were still experiencing this. There are no current service issues that I am aware of with the OpenX service. I just browsed the site in Chrome, and it loaded the ads immediately without any delay. However, I closed the browser, opened it back up again, but this time I noticed exactly what you have described. After viewing several pages for confirmation, I closed the browser and opened it again, but now things are back to normal.

While it's 'good' that I was finally able to replicate the issue, it makes it even more difficult to pin down. I suspect something in the OpenX invocation code is breaking Chrome's rather boutique V8 Javascript engine. I will send them an inquiry to see what they say.

I've just noticed that everything is perfect now :dopey:, the page loads then about a second later the adds appear and the GTP icon shows instead of the spinning wheel.
Strangely today I've also found that my Hotmail works properly now on Chrome which it never did before hand (possibly because I sent a report on Tuesday to google about it, but I doubt they'd listen to me that quickly?). Maybe it was a glitch with the browser, that has been fixed, and the openX problems earlier in the month just confused the situation. I'll let you know if it reappears. Thanks for your concern. 👍

Well, that's good news, although I can't help but worry it will come back. I've been doing some research and found that OpenX actually isn't to blame. However, there are multiple layers of ad servers underneath that which could have been the source of the problem. Some type of bug in Chrome's javascript engine is probably to blame, but hopefully Google has corrected that now.

Not necessarily.

All of those ads all over the Internet seem to have Javascript errors built into them. Why? It could be that that is causing Chrome to freak out a bit?

I really hate those ads. They were the second most important I upgraded to Premium. :)

It might not necessarily be a bug in the strict definition of the word, but Chrome's V8 Javascript engine wasn't elegantly handling what it could not load or process. Advertising invocation codes are complex due to fact they have to serve all of today's rich media formats. Basically, it has to get the client to retrieve something from another server, and effectively re-write that into the page, all while ensuring the integrity of the request/visitor. The ad could be a static image, a flash file, or raw HTML filled with it's own Javascript. To add another layer of complexity, consider that once all the ads have been served via one advertising network, it can pass along the request to another. This involves reading that network's invocation code, and somehow passing that out to the visitor via the original codes where the process starts all over again! As you can see, there are many opportunities for things to go wrong.
