I'm haveing monitor issues w/ my HP Pavilion DV4t-1200. The screen is black but when I keester in an outboard monitor the video is there. I don't know the first thing about opening up a laptop and isolating the flatscreen to test it so any help would be great. Thankz in advance

I've never heard the term "keester in an outboard monitor"

You mean when you output video to an external monitor?
How old is the laptop? If it's still under warranty, you could call up and get it replaced.

It's either the video connection to the LCD panel is bad or the backlight has died. If it is the lesser then it means that you'll have to replace the whole LCD panel. If you plan on doing this then open the laptop up and get the model number for the LCD panel. It might seem like extra work but it'll save you pain and 2 weeks of time trying to get refunded for a bad ebay listing.

Thanks Nick, I read about the back lite deal and we can't see any light of any kind and we took a flash light and aimed it in a way that was supose to illuminate the screen so I could see any graphics and we couldn't see anything either so I think that I will have to find the step by step as to how to open the case up. Any direction on where to find the step by step would be great. Thanks in advance.

You would be lucky to find instructions online. It's not hard when you take a piece of paper and note where each screw goes to. Most laptops you just need to remove the rubber covers on the LCD screen and remove the screws. Then you just pop the plastic apart with your fingers or a screwdriver.

a screwdriver.

A plastic card or 'spudger' is usually the way to go, using a screwdriver will chew the plastic up pretty quickly. A plastic tool won't damage anything (as long as you're gentle with it).

Well I think I know enough to be dangerious on this one :nervous: So it's off to you tube to see if I can watch some lap top case spliting. Thankz for everyones input and cudoz to Nick 👍 I wouldn't know what I know without the ecnouragement I get from this place. :)

Thankz for everyone's input :) Little Lefty was able to successfully repair his screen. I had to watch the entire process and was surprised how compact everything was, and with much patience and research we were able to fix it for $50. I am so grateful for the help I am always able to find here from such helpful members. Your input and confidence that I get gives me the courage to try just about any project. Watching my son achieve such unbelievable things with the encouragement I get from this forum is priceless ....... Thankz........ :)
