Hey, just would like to know who here is a PayPal user, and who of those users are Verified users.

Reason is I'm unverified and my sending limit is almost finished and I want to know from other people if it is good and safe enough to be verified?
Thanks for all who reply.

Verified means you qualify for buyer protection on qualified purchases as well as not being excluded from certain online auctions that require a certified account. It gives sells assurance that you are who you say you are.

I'm registered as 2 things: My main account which i use to buy things (with my mum's credit card details in), and i have my accel account where people can donate to the site, and then i add the extra money i need by sending from my other account.

EDIT

I do that, because the other account is in my mum's name, and i don't want my mum's name going out on donations.

PayPal is the most secure online payment service available, which is why eBay has partnered with it. I use it exclusively, and for the most part it is hassle-free. The only bad thing I have to say about it is they rape you financially with their laughable exchange rate, which never even comes close to equalling the real exchange rates of the day. I guess I only have a qualm with them because I'm Canadian. Oh well.

Haha yeah they rip you off...but hey ...still cheaper than than transferring the money via bank ;)

Yeah, I used to think I could save money by using money orders to pay for tings I won on eBay, but it's so much of ahassle to go get one from the bank or post office, and they charge you to buy one (which I never understood), so it ended up being more trouble than it was worth.

Bottom line, PayPal is the best way to go. Its cons are outweighed by its pros.

I'm a verified paypal user, it's a good thing to be verified.

Yeah, back when I started using PayPal (5+ years ago) they had a rule that they would not verify any users outside the U.S> I cried foul, because many eBay sellers won't accept bids from unverified PayPal accounts, so I was being restricted from buying certain items because of where I lived. Now I think they verify you regardless after a certain number of transactions.

I don't know about that, I've been verified for 3 years. But if I wen't through step by step the procedure when I did it, it'd probably be different now. They put 37p in my back account in two sum's, one of 9p and the other 28p, and I had to confirm the two ammounts to verify my account. Though the firt time I tried to verify it they kept saying the ammounts were wrong whn I had them on a statement infront of me saying they were right, so they sent the two other ammounts and they wen't through ok.

Its the same still I think with two deposits.

Yes I had to do the deposit verification too, but that was just to get my account from trial to full. It didn't make mine a "verified" account; that was something entirely different. Don't know if it's still the same or not.

Paypal Verified here - and have been for a looooong time.. Paypal is basically the internet shopping / auctions idea of sliced bread. I know there's a couple of "Paypal did me up the bottom" sites out there, but I've never had ANY trouble whatsoever.

Regarding Andertons qualms with the exchange rates - lets just say I spend more than I make so that has never really been an issue ;)

It was part of the verification for me I'm sure of it, there was more to it than that though.

What do you mean when you say you spend more than you make? How does that immunize you against the shoddy exchange rates of PayPal?
It means I pay more than I make. And when I do make a payment to someone and doesn't have enough on my account, it charges my Mastercard where exchange rates are done on bank basis, which is pretty close to "real" time exchange rate...

I've once transferred funds back to my bank account, from Dollars to Kroners.. That, OTOH, Bad F'ng idea - as you said...

Yeah that's when I get dinged the most by the exchange rate, when I withdraw money from my PayPal account into my Bank Account, it transfers American to Canadian $ with an exchange around .82, when it's closer to .86 or even .87 on some days...

I’ve been a verified member for quite some time, and I certainly prefer to deal with fellow verified users. Incidentally, I was recently ripped off by a seller (outside of ebay) and Paypal managed to recover most of my funds. I’m pleased with the outcome, though it was a frustrating and lengthy process.

Looks like I am verified, and has a feedback record or (110)!. I used to trade a lot on eBay, so it's probably from then.

As far as the safety goes, I haven't had one incident of theft of any kind, so I think it's safe.

One advice on PayPal purchases. If you have a credit card, always use the credit card option to send payments. If you get ripped off somehow, PayPal's protection is very limited(I'd go as far as calling it laughable). PayPal(and eBay as well. Same company.) will 'talk' of protecting you, credit card companies will actually walk the walk.

Thats what happened with me actually. I paid for something, but never got it, so I sent ebay and paypal a letter explaining, and filled out the required forms, only to get told they could do nothing because the other party wouldn't respond on their paypal account.

Called my credit card company, and within a month I had my money back. Funny thing is though, I recieved a kind of nasty email from paypal/ebay right afterwards telling me I should have contacted them to solve the problem and not my credit card company.

PayPal/eBay has really let me down before too. In my case, I bought a basketball jersey, except when it arrived, it was missing the player's name on the back. I asked PayPal, but they could only negotiate a partial refund. I held out for the full refund, didn't get anything back. :ouch:

I can't believe eBay/PayPal sent you an rude email. They are upset, because they ended up covering for your loss(since the credit card wouldn't pay them), which is something they insinuate(right word?) in the first place.

PayPal is good, but if you fund payments from a bank account it takes forever for the damn thing to clear!

Other than that and the crappy exchange rates, I'm verified with no problems.
