I'm looking for an upgrade for my trusty old Q6600 system. I'm on quite a tight budget so am looking towards AMD cpus. I am considering either the fx 4100 or 6100, they're both roughly the same price. I use my PC for office application, photoshop and a few games (dirt 3 and C9). I'm out of touch with what is out there.
I would really like to spend max £230, that would be mainboard, cpu, ram and HDD. I'm going to reuse my 6870.

I'm considering getting the frequently bought items on the link for £166.
HDD wise my old 500 gb drive was enough for me, I'll probably go up to 1tb any sugestions on which one I should go for?
Is there anything else I could spend my money on?

What about a PSU? The one from your old computer should be fairly old and inefficient(wasting power on the 12V as extra heat). A PSU like this one would work great. Because the PSU is so efficient it performs closer to the advertised total power figure. If you don't like the cost then go for a Corsair 500W unit.

For the time being I'm going to have to reuse my old psu. I have been looking at corsair ones, would 500 Watt be enough? Also I don't plan on over clocking.

Look for the ADMI bundles. Most of them are pre-assembled and tested. 👍

But yeah you could also pick the parts separately and assemble them yourself, I have nothing against that.

It would just be more multitasking as games rarely take more than 2 cores at a time. I'd just save the money and get the FX-4100.

Why not just save up even more money instead?

That way, you would be able to widen your selection of good quality parts that would last some time.

I mean, for 400 or 500 quid, you could get a pretty quick system that would be easily twice as fast as your current system. 230 quid is a bit too little.

Save up the money for a bit longer, say about three to four months and you should get a better deal. Also, there may be some changes too, to help you get a better system.

Alternatively, you could have looked toward the A10/A8/A6 AMD processors if you didn't want to deal with a GPU in the computer, just for causal gaming only.

A 1TB hard drive for 57 quid.

A hexacore bundle for 160 quid.

= 217,14 quid total, free delivery. What do you think?

You can get the 2TB version of that drive for £80 (I think that's with VAT and delivery), go have a look on scan.co.uk. I'd post the link but I'm on my phone.

I've just seen the first post though so maybe disregard this post.

If the OP wishes to have more storage space than 1TB, I found a 2TB HDD for £73.79, free delivery too if I'm not mistaken. That would be approx. £41 cheaper than buying two of those 1TB HDDs I linked with the bundle.
