is there a program that records data right before a crash to help determine what the cause could be?

after a few minutes or a few hours of gaming or listening to music and browsing the internet, my pc will freeze up. the sound will freeze and the screen and everything. I just got a new motherboard, stick of ram, and hard drive. I tried doing some troubleshooting...

i ran memtest and no problems were found. so then i unplugged the ram and i still get freezing after a few minutes or a few hours of gaming. I clocked the cpu down to 2.1 and that didnt do anything.... i undeclocked my gpu and that doesnt do anything either... i have my case open and my hard drive sitting almost outside of the case.

i had HDD health running when my pc crashed. and when i booted up again, it had this info.

Do you have any CPU temp monitoring software? You may be overheating. It sounds that way considering it happens after a certain period of use.

Sounds like classic overheat symptoms. I don't know if yours does, but some systems' BIOS can monitor and report CPU temp. Those that do will probably issue a warning and do an orderly shutdown, or at least slow down to reduce power, so yours probably doesn't.

Opening the case is actually the worst thing you can do for cooling. Fans are designed to pull air through the case, sometimes through special baffles specifically covering the processors or drives. Opening the case prevents air from being forced through designed cooling channels.

The temp reported in your screen shot is disk drive temp, not CPU or chassis, and would be a problem if the drive disappeared or stopped. That wouldn't lock the system, though.

You say you stepped your clock down to 2.1 so I'm assuming you're overclocked. What do you usually run at, and what's the processor actually supposed to be?

did u look at the thread? i tried upping the voltage on a few things... and now the pc hasnt frozen in a while...

well... it just froze again. :p i'm upping the agp voltage from 1.5 to 1.7 to see if that does anything...

Did you look at the thread? You did not say a thing about upping the voltage. I'm telling you to get a temperature monitor and run a stress test to see if the CPU is overheating.

Damn, you can't even try helping somebody around here without being yelled at.

i'm not yelling lol. horray for the internet and miscommunication :p

everything feels warm but not hot. i am looking at the temps right now on the cpu and everything else, and nothing looks very high at all, even while running a game. i am just relying on the temp monitoring built into the motherboard and my hand.
