Just wondering what everyone feels is the best rally game for the pc (dfp usage is a must). I've looked around and there were a few threads but they were back in 2005, so I thought I would ask again incase anything came out. I heard Richard Burns rally is a good choice. Anyone?

For sheer fun factor, Colin McRae rally 2005 is pretty hard to beat.

Dunno about DFP compatability though.

If its fun you are after I would have to agree with ultrabeat, however if it cold, hard realism you are after then Richard Burns Rally is the way to go. However keep in mind with RBR that you will have to put in the time and effort, its realistic down to the very narrow width of the stages and with the full damage mode switched on almost any off will finish the rally for you. However that said, the first time you finish a stage with even a remotely competitive time is far more rewarding that anything Colin McRae can throw at you.

I suppose it depends exactly what you are after from a rally game.

Right on.👍

The thing about RBR was that it made it almost too realistic. People want the experience of being a rally driver for the moment, but people also want to believe they'd be good at it, so by giving the player a "superhuman" element, allowing them to compete on a simplified level without giving the game away, the awards come quicker and there's argueably more fun to be had in that alone.

But I agree 108%, it depends on what you want from the game.

I'll give both a go. I was looking for realism but I am somewhat dumbfounded when it comes to rally so RBR might be a really hard task to take on. Thanks for the help.

RBR easily. tons of new cars have been added. and new tracks will be added as a track editor was recently released.

I downloaded RBR and I love it. I've been playing nonstop. I'm getting the hang of it, but I usually try to push the car too hard and end up doing some major damage. Right now I'm in first half way through my pro season, and unless I get too ancy I think I will take home the win. My only complaint about the game is the lack of freedom, I wish there were more controls to be set and little things like that.

In what regard? As the PS2 version had some of the most detailed car set-up screens I've come across, easily a match for just about anything else on the market. You can totally change the character of the car by messing around with the active diff mapping, particularly in regard to left-foot braking.

That said, glad to hear you are enjoying it, RBR has always been a favourite of mine, just a shame we are unlikely to ever see a sequel.

I quite personally enjoyed Rally Trophy quite a bit. It takes a more GT Legends approach to rallying, and I found it to be quite realistic when I played it last. Quite a lot of fun too.
It also looks quite good and doesn't require stupid systems specs to do so.
Edit: I said quite 4 (now 5) times in 4 (now 5) sentences, and it wasn't even intentional.

I have just ordered Richard Burns Rally myself, should be good fun on my new Momo racing wheel!:D

Yeah shoulda specified. I was thinking of everything outside of tuning the car. GTR and Live for Speed come to mind in being able to have a say in just about everything. It is a shame though, mainly for the circumstances.

Apologies for digging up the body of an old thread, but I thought it better than starting an entirely new thread on a game not many people may have played or be interested in.

Anyway, I've recently bought an old rally game from 99/00, Mobil 1 Rally Championship. I remember when it came out but at that time all my time and effort was going into my PSX games and much as Mobil 1 looked great, we didn't have the PC for it. I'd played one of it's predecessors, RAC Rally released by Europress in around 1995, if not earlier, and the game that split the 2, RAC's successor probably in 1996/7 ish.

What these games, and Mobil 1 has over the great majority of rally titles is full length stages - not the 3 minute fodder of most rally games, but stages that take fifteen and twenty minutes sometimes. I'd love to see a return to games like this and maybe one day we might, but for the time being Mobil 1 is the best I can do.

Spent a while figuring out how to set it up on Vista (it was designed for Win 95/98) and once I'd got my controller working I had a pop. The graphics are a bit rough but not too bad (roughly equal to CMR1) and the handling isn't as fluid (but more difficult). The sounds aren't as good as CMR1, which was the major competitor at the time - but I really enjoy the extra realism and immersion of the longer stages. Your co-driver is either Derek Ringer or Clare Mole (anyone familiar to British Rallying may have heard of Clare), and you can choose from a wide selection of group A vehicles, right from A5 class cars like a 1300cc Micra and 1400cc Puma, to the A1 class such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 4.

So anyone else remember this game? Anyone played it? Anyone still play it? I reckon I'm gonna have a bit of fun with this game. It's making me want to get into rallying for real again, after my interests had momentarily gone towards circuit racing.

Epic thread digging there! I normally just go for Colin Mcrae or RBR, both good games. As for Xpand rally, can't say I've ever heard of it. How much is it up for?

Best to keep the search function a secret, otherwise everyone will be using it!

I see what you mean about it is there, but not there.

Right now, I’m addicted to Ricky Carmichael’s Motorcross Match-up Pro. great tracks, great bikes. Plus, you can download it for free!
