Not in terms of car selection of course, but in terms of realism and things you can do to the game, adjustability.
Take for example NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) 2003 from Papyrus.
This game was made like 3 years ago.
Yet it has graphics that allow 43 cars. It has tire temp readings. Your fuel isnt pictured as 10 blue blocks as it is in GT4, but you can see the exact amount example 12.1 gallons. YOu can adjust EVERYTHING about your computer opponents. Their horsepower, handling, aero, durability, agressiveness., pit strategy, pit speed, EVERYTHING. The AI is super smart. When following you down a straightaway they will even mirror your moves to stay in the draft.
For all you wanting custom decals I've created my own custom paint schemes for NR2003 cars 50+ times. It is easy too. Just export a default paint scheme to your favorite painter, MS Paint does just fine, and your set. I've even put my face on the driver. WHEN will GT ever be able to do that?
I've also downloaded a ton of mods. I've raced Formula 1 cars using this SIM, I've also raced Touring Cars. I've also raced Le MANS cars, Sauber C9s, Mazda 787bs etc using this SIM. I've raced at the Nurburgring, LeMans, chicaned and unchicaned. I have hundreds of tracks at my finger tips to download. I have hundreds of full leagues to join at my fingertips. All ovals, all road courses, indy cars, lemans cars, you want it, NR2003 has a league for it.
Oh, and i also raced online with 42 other human opponents hundreds of times with little to no lag. Theres nothing like starting 35th on a road course at Sonoma against 40 living breathing opponents.
I'm just sick and tired of Project Gotham racing jumping up and saying we have a spectator mode!!! Big deal.. NR2003 allows you to watch any online race you want. I've even called a few races.
If you ask me NR2003 at a price tag of 15$ now is worth 100x more and has 100x more replayability then GT4.
So whats my point you ask?
Well I think its about time GT AND KY get on the ball and step up their game. No more little improvements. No more 6 cars. No more idiotic AI. No more easy as pie difficulty. With the super power of the PS3, Which is a million times faster than my PC which ran NR2003, , there better be HUGE improvements.
So I'm not going to sit here and tell you what GT needs to include. I'm just going to tell you that GT has a ton of potential yet KY never takes the next step. So if GT5 can throw in a good online mode, 15+ cars online at least, damage, and weather and night/day changes, I say its taken the proper next step in the series. Papyrus has been making racing games for 10+ years now. So I expect them to be ahead of KY. But now, it is up to KY to take the next step. Damage would be a nice next step. I understand where GT4 is at and why it is what it is but I will lose ALL faith in KY if he doesnt deliver:
A. Damage
B. At Least 15 cars on track at once
C. Weather changes
D. Day Night Changes
