Here's a great program that lets you stream stuff directly from your PC like albums, avi/ divx/ mpeg movies and photo's etc .. without any converting and burning to disc hassles ... streams directly to your PS3 and the TV screen you have the PS3 at!
I was originally streaming movies from PC to PS3 using nero media server but the latest PS3 2.0 update took it away from me and luckily my missus Kel mentioned this program that I thought why not try it! and after 10 mins setting it up it works a treat

Here's what to do ...

Download the Tversity program found here which also has the latest FFDshow included .. ->Tversity & FFDshow<-

Instructions
1. Install Tversity 0.9.11.2a

2. Install FFDshow revision 802 or revision 1355 ( uninstall any old versions before installing this )

3. Once you have done all the above, goto your Windows Firewall and in exceptions allow Mediaserver.exe ( you can find it at C:\Program Files\TVersity\Media Server\MediaServer.exe ) You may need to allow Tversity also, if it allready hasnt been added automatically. I just added both and checked them both.

Ok now that everythings installed and the firewall is sorted its time to try some streaming.

1. Load up Tversity

2. Goto Start/All Programs/ Tversity Media Server/ Tversity Tools/ Start Tversity Media Server. ( This may be done automatically but I always do it manually to make sure the server side bit is running )

3. Add your folders/Files via the Sharing Tab and The Green + Icon.

4. On the Settings Tab Choose the Transcoder option on the left and setup your connection speed ( wired or wireless ) and screen resolution ( Recommended screen resolution is 1280 x 720 )

5. Scroll to bottom of the page and Save your config you have setup.

6. Do the Search for servers on your PS3 and it should now find Tversity server and from there you all know how to play your videos etc.

This is a great program and will work with RJ45 or with WIFI and totally ideal for the odd movie or show not worth wasting a disc on ;)
Have fun and enjoy 👍

Please note! ... I done a search and found nothing on this already! .. so please no smug simple link with no words as I'm only trying to pass on what I have found and its all good and defo worth sharing  I never created the program or made the simple instructions .. they are simply pasted from another source.

Have you tried it? I tried to get it to work a few months ago with no luck. Vista 32-bit here.

I have it running perfectly here Pako and tested all formats on it.. but I am using XP! :(
I will look for any instructions to get it running on Vista that has answers from people saying it works, no guarantee's! .. but I'll be back either way 👍

I tried this a few days ago. I cant get the Media Server to start! :(

when you go into Windows Firewall and add tversity.exe from the program files folder you will find mediaserver.exe in the same folder ... both of these need to be added to the exceptions list and ticked and saved then restart the pc and try searching with the ps3 again 👍

Ok Pako it seems with Vista users they must follow all the instructions above as normal but they must also set the properties for mediaserver.exe to Win/XP compatability and then add mediaserver.exe to the exceptions list in your firewall

this has been recommended by a few Vista users 👍

yep ive been using this since day one. the program itself has come a long way. i started off using it on my 360 and sucked real bad. then I got my ps3 and stream all my movies to my HD projector 100" screen FTW.

BTW - nice guide.

For the people with Vista, I also found that Winamp Remote works remarkably well for streaming media to the PS3, with the added upside that it will also stream audio and video over an internet connection as well. 👍

I use Tversity and it works great. HD transcoding does not work on my pc(AMD64 2.2GHz) but i will change my pc to 3GHz core duo around christmas.(and it only costs me 60€ :) )

I'll give it a try, thanks for the recommendation. 👍

I installed the program and everything, but I still can't get it to work. Do I hae to uninstall the old program I was using?
