I'd assume the newest one would be the most reliable, the Xbox 360 250GB Elite "Slim".

There isn't one. The reason why the PS3 is expensive is that the build quality is light years ahead of the 360. I got mine 5 years ago and it is still going strong. How many people can say that about the shoebox 360? Never, ever will I understand why so many people have wasted their money on Microsoft's console when the PS3 is so obviously more powerful and more reliable. People who buy 360's are misguided idiots, plain and simple. The PS3 has so much untapped power. Only with GT5 will we see the start of what the PS3 is hiding.

You're taking a chance no matter what when buying electronics nowadays. Just go with what fit your budget and get the warranty. My experience: I've bought them since they came out and 2 have RROD on me. I also have a PS3 since launch and 1 has YLOD. Everyone's experience will be different of course.

You do realize that both the PS3 and 360 have rather high failure rates right?

This is something I hope both get right next gen., there have been way to many failures this gen.

Well, lots of nonsense in this thread.

Let me reiterate that I believe the new 360 Slim would be the most reliable, and here's an actual reason why: Smaller processor = less power consumption = less heat. Plus the newly designed case appears to be much better ventilated. So altogether, I'd say that it'd be the most reliable model.

I don't know if I'm just lucky, but FYI I've had no hardware failures this generation between my original 60 GB PS3, my Jasper 360 Pro and my 120 GB PS3 Slim.

The later the 360, generally speaking, the better. My Halo 3 edition was the first of the "original" 360s that began to have significant decreases with quality issues, but I still managed to pull an E74 code.

Really, buying anything less than a new "New 360" is pretty silly. Especially considering that Microsoft will probably be trying to get another 3+ years out of the console.

Oddly enough, my uncle's 360 just RRoD'd.

I'd wait for the results to get back on the slim, but they do have a problem of destroying your disk if moved.

I don't have a decent pc, anyway my pc is ancient.Too expensive just for one game tbh.I was thinking of buying an arcade 360, for just over £100, what do you think i should do ?.Don't really want to spend more than that.

S&S.

A broken one

Kidding
but the new one can break as the old one

Except it doesn't show the 3 red rings anymore.
MS want to get that word out of people head

I have an arcarde (those form back august09, they should last a bit longer)

I DO have brain. That's the reason I went for a PS3 instead of a 360. It's a bit like the Mitsubishi Evo vs the Chrysler Neon. Doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out which one most people would rather have.

Of course, McLaren, being from Dallas, Texas, USA, you are bound to stick with the 360.

Please cut out the thinly veiled attacks and the flame-bait posts.

Neither are welcome here and the AUP ensures that should you continue I have the mandate to ensure your stay here as a member is cut rather shot.

Not a discussion point by the way, but an instruction, stop posting in this manner now.

I wouldnt assume that at all. Just because it is the new 360 does not mean it will be reliable. We would sure hope it is but I wouldnt count on it until it is field tested by the community. I do know for a fact that any of the 360s are more reliable than the first gen 360 (Xenon/Zephyr). That thing was a ticking time bomb. The Jasper models have been much better thats for sure so this new 360 could be reliable.
If you dont want a brand new slim 360 then get the jasper model.

Most reliable 360 is on the right.

You've got some problems if you have that much animosity towards a video game system.

I think I've been lucky with my consoles. My brother got a 360, 1 year after release and it's still going to this day. We also have a 2nd generation one without any problems so far. Of course it has been used for a shorter period of time.

The new 360 "slim" had to be the most reliable, but there were reports that even if you move or tap with the 360 while the console is on, it'll screw up your disc completely. Be aware of this, so always turn it off if you're going to move it and be sure to leave it alone horizontally while it's on. This happens to my old 360 as well, big whoop.

Really? Because that was one of the worst analogies I've ever seen.

And I'd rather be from Dallas if Dumfries is full of people like you.

Hey, Id rather live in Dallas than Dumfries. By the way, Im not a PS3 fanboy. My brother owns a 360 and Im always winding him up about his choice of console, all in fun. The thing that pisses me off though is that all the game shops around here, Carlisle and in this country in general are staffed by mostly 360 fanboys. You just have to walk in and the first thing you see is huge display areas for the 360. The PS3 section is stuck in a corner, the games are more expensive, and there are fewer deals. When all I see is 360 shoved in my face by the staff, when they try to sell me 360's and games, and getting funny, almost sympathetic looks when I say I own a PS3, knowing that my console is far more powerful and reliable, I just don't get it.
