Penalty system is still a piece of garbage

Well I have no doubt about it. I am so angry at the moment.
I was just in an Interlagos daily race. 3rd place is in front of me at the beginning of lap 4. He knows I'm about to overtake him on that lap. He intentionally brake checks me WAY before the braking area of turn 1 (at least 3 meters before the glowing red area on the tarmac) and I get a 5 seconds penalty.
This is NOT cool.

How is this normal?

You're right, it's not cool! It's been a problem for a long time. But we've got much bigger fish to fry than the ever-evolving penalty system. The fact that the penalty system will let you down is a known quantity and isn't worth getting mad over anymore.

Just do what you can to call out dirty racers in the chat. People can save the replay and observe what happened and eventually bad gamers earn a name for themselves.

It's only a game, I don't let these things bother me, **** happen's, just try again, life goes on, don't take game playing too serious. Just get back in and try to beat them or find something else to do.

PD removed the player tagging feature in the lobby so I can't immediately tag a player, I have to write the full name, and by the time I'm done typing my message, everybody's gone.
Plus I couldn't possibly save that replay (I wish I did!!)... I rage quit that race.

I was definitely bummed as well when i did my first spot championship gr3 race and was bumped off track twice by a racer who received zero penalty. Not sure what quantifies penalty-worthy bumps, but he was definitely doing it on purpose and knew the limit to not get caught. I watched him do it over and over to racers behind and ahead of me.

Bummed me out big time! But then again, that's why I'm more into single player stuff because most online players have zero respect.

GT at this point is frustration combined with the tease of broken promises being remedied, like the penalty system and the, well you get the idea...! I happen to like the way Project CARS 2 handled their penalty systems, then there's ACC which is really the best one at current for online racing, IMO. I wouldn't recommend iracing because it's so easy to drop money on that title and become homeless. Wouldn't know about Raceroom Racing Experience's (RRE) online but everything about that title seems really solid, sound design especially.

I've had many good online races on Raceroom. Their contact physics works very well, meaning door-to-door racing without cars acting like ping-pong balls. Alas, from what I've read lobbies are mostly empty unless you're on the European servers (and even those aren't exactly suffering from over-population.) It might be better in Oceania than in North America, but I doubt it.

Ich war nur in einem Interlagos-Tagesrennen. Der 3. Platz ist am Anfang von Runde 4 vor mir, er weiß, dass ich ihn auf diesem Schoß überholen werde. Er bremst mich absichtlich vor dem Bremsbereich der Wende 1 (mindestens 3 Meter vor dem glühenden roten Bereich auf der Tarmac) und ich bekomme eine 5 Sekunden Strafe.
Das ist nicht cool.

Wie ist das normal?

I would be very careful with such claims.. since we don't know which car you had and which car he had, this extremely small difference to "your" braking area can also be easily explained.. on top of that, you simply assume that he sees YOUR braking zone and then braked too early in YOUR eyes.
Then there is the fact that you were obviously very close to the person in front of you and therefore could neither dodge nor brake.
Did it occur to you for even a second ( before posting a topic here ) that your front man had several very good reasons for his braking?

1. Different car, which can very easily require a different earlier braking point.
2. A mistake by the player as he was distracted/overwhelmed with you behind him.
3. No aids switched on and therefore internalized a different braking point.
4. On purpose, but out of caution, because he (like me, by the way, extremely often) expected/feared that you would have rammed him in the curve.

Each of these reasons would be absolutely OK and understandable for me.

Hence my advice.. calm down and if in doubt.. text him politely and ask..

I wrote about this the very first days the game launched.
In the first daily, the forest, there were two problems: the allowed use of the hybrid vision car on a hp-regulated race,
and on top those guys that for sure know how to play the penalty system.

I would get pushed outside of the track, the other driver would try for this for many seconds, when he manages, I get a penalty for leaving the track or hitting the rail/wall, he gets nothing else than my position(!)
Hell, I have been even pit-maneuvered, spun out, got a penalty, other guy gets nothing(!)

I was wondering if there are any topics regarding exactly how to play the penalty system, because every time I tried rubbing on an opponent myself, I would instantly get heavy penalties.

So, if there are any articles regarding how to cheese the penalty system, please drop me a link. ty
