I had read a while back in the GT4 forum about players using Mxdrives and similar devices to load and unload data such as game saves to and from the Memory cards of the PS2. How does this work? I recently bought a LexaR Firefly, will that work on he PS2? If so, how can I make it compatible?

You can't use flash drives, you need a maxdrive or something similar, look in the Hybrids and Gamesharks forum for more info.

Well I bought a maxdrive about 4 years ago roughly and it broke within a year 👎 I still had the pc and ps2 discs when I decided to try out my usb gadgets that I had laying around .. I managed to get 2 mp3 players and a digital camera that would do the job :) obviously you will need to get the maxdrive disc from somewhere but trial and error with some gadgets will bring up a winner somewhere! I have been using the same old mp3 player to upload my GT4 replays to the WRS now for well over 3 years and I swear by it 👍

So yeah it might work! ... but you will need to get hold of the maxdrive or ARmax software disc to get the file transfer screen on your PS2 ;)

Odd...the MAXDRIVE isn't recognized by my copy of GT4 as a USB device at all. I was looking forward to putting up a pic I took on there, on purpose, to use as an Avatar.

and how do you decompress the saves for use on the PC for swapping round? I wanted to show off some of my GT4 replay saves...especially the 16 360's cobra crash, which got eaten :P

Well, there are some distinctions to be made here:

If you have the Maxdrive software, you will be able to use the majority of USB storage devices (even cameras and external HDDs) for loading and saving files, such as replays. There is no other way to know if the one you have works than either find someone who did it with the exact same stick or try by yourself.

The Maxdrives own stick, which basically is a 16 MB USB stick, will not work with GT4s photomode. This is a rare occasion, but it is known that some storage devices just don't work with photomode.

In any case, it is important to understand that there is no connection whatsoever between the photomode of GT4 and the Maxdrive. So the fact that the Maxdrives USB stick works with its own software (obviously) and that it does not work with GT4s photomode is perfectly fine.

@ Sniffs: you need to decompress the replay onto the stick within the Maxdrive software. Then you can put the stick into your PC, copy the file to your HDD and put it on the net.

I have some replays I'd like to upload myself from last night's episode with TOCA3. I have been using the GameShark5 to open up the Simulation mode and have discovered that TOCAS offroad ralley is WAY superior to that of GTs. You here me Poly Digital???? step up and get it right! BUT... back to it, I was racing a baja bug on a nasty little course with a lot of hills built into the track and man was I having fun just throwing that bug all over!!!!!I had it fly in the air and flip sunnyside upand land on the roof right down on the fence, only to ricothet back onto the track ready to do it all over again 50 yards downrack. I would like to make video for you tube usig some comical song.

About the MaxDrive software. Is it possible to get it at Cnet downloads .com?

nope. get it offa codejunkies.com itself. it's free
if you're comparing the "damage" routine, remember, GT's have it removed at the request of the manufacturers. if you mean handling, remember that GT is a "close to life" type.

Note that the download only is the PC part of the Maxdrive software, which you don't need anyway, as you basically just copy a file from or to a USB device. What you need to swap files is the PS2 disc of the Maxdrive, and you can only get that one by purchasing it.
