This is something that really anoys me about some of the people that post threads.
For example "how do you win the pro yaris race?" i mean really is it that hard i did this race ages ago but after reading the thread i thought ill try it again c if it is that hard, a fully moded yaris with no setup whatsoever can win this event.
I finished this game ages ago with no help at all and u get these dumb people that dont have a clue, this is not a hard game u just need to learn the basics of how each drivetype handles then race the *****n races, dont get me wrong most of the threads i read are about legitamate subjects but people just dont seem to be able to do things buy themselves... maybe im just the only one that gets annoyed buy this, id like to hear from anyone else that reads these threads then gets the urge to hit the person that started them???
:banghead:

I agree, they could at least search to see if the info about their problem was already posted. Most of these people are new to the forum and are only around 10-12 years old.

nah... but it just gets annoying when people ask what kinda car can win this kind of race. Then there is people like Scotty who says he has a fast racing style. And i see your point of people arent really doing this game themselves

You could always take a deep breath, deal with your rage, and gently point out the search functions.

On the scale of problems facing this world, this would rate pretty close to the bottom. It's annoying, but with so many new members it's inevitable.

Think of it this way - you have a question on GT3, and you do a search in Google. There's a good chance you're going to hit GTPlanet (try 'Vitz Series' in Google and see what you get). So you come across this forum.

You have a little look through, and think 'hey, this looks pretty good' - so you join up, and post a thread asking about the Vitz series....

....and immediately get your backside flamed to a crisp.

Talk about a good first impression!

But my point wasnt only about the vitz series but other **** like "whats a good setup for my miata/mx5??" ..theres hundreds of setup pages around like gtvault for instance.. i think the polls are good on this site and the search function is good but yeah ...maybe i need anger management or somethion ..lol oh well gt3 will have to suffice for now

sum1 here need anger management :p

n00b are ok. :)
we were all n00bs at sum stage :)
leave them alone you bullies!!!

Maybe you do - just respond with a friendly suggestion of how to use the search function. Easy.

Ok ok im sorry but i got people thinking but in future i will "nicely" direct people to the searh icon ...even though its far easier to lower there self esteem but o.k ..as for the people that want me to punish them i think they could use a bout of therapy or should seriously question there sexual morals..muhahahaha

You all should lighten up on noobs... not only were we all noobs once but we seem to forget that we dont always know everything and sometimes even we may ask relatively dumb questions... I know that in the past even mods have been kinda mean to noobs... but its changing and we should all be a bit kinder or we will end up with more one time posters... that is the real shame...

People asking stupid questions can be annoying, but seeing as this is a forum, that's inevitable to some degree.

What I think is really annoying is people who leave out their punctuation, make no attempt to post with proper grammar and misspell every other word. Last I heard English was the national language in New Zealand, and you've got just about the worst grasp of it I've seen on this forum.

Just look at your posts. You capitalized almost nothing in any of them. You ran almost all your sentences together, omitting punctuation and necessary articles. I hope your apostrophe key is broken, because you didn't use a single one in a contraction. You used 1-letter abbreviations because "you" and "see" are too difficult to type. Your grammar is horrid, and you misspelled all these simple words:

annoys
modded
legitimate
by
something
search
their (misspelled twice)

Everybody makes mistakes (some more than others), but your posts are legitimately painful to read.

Why do you think there's a "Preview Reply" button? Have some respect for other people and expend the effort required to produce posts that are above a 6-year-old English level.

I never would've said anything, but if you're going to be so judgmental of other people's posts, you need to take a long look at what you've been contributing yourself.

I admit freely that my grammatical syntax is horrible, and my spelling is laughable, but at least I try. I participate at forums like this so I can get better at writting and expressing my ideas with words. It doesn't always work for me, but that's how I learn. It's been nearly twelve years since I have had to write this much, you don't do much writing as a Hard Rock guitarist, but I am rediscovering my writing abilities.

People who rite lik dis r ppl hoo kant spel so deh hid it b ritn lik dis so they appear "cool" while hidding their lack of writing and spelling abilities. I often ignore these individuals, and I don't bother responding to a single word they have to say. If they don't learn how to do it correctly now, when are they going to? They have to learn at some point in their life.

I need to work on my proof reading the most. I have a bad habit of never using the "Preview Reply", but I'll start using it more to improve my posts.

EDIT: Oops, forgot to use the "Preview Reply" again.

EDIT #2: Misspelled EDIT.

hwo iz my spelin, do u tink i rite kewl?
jk...
Still though, Sometimes you have to admit, Newbies Post questions that you dont even need to seach for as they are already on the first page. I've seen A couple vitz Questions on the same page, the best car sound, and a couple more. But i agree with telling them to use search in a polite manner, but also, they need to READ the thread titles as some just jump to the new thread icon and click without even reading whats on the first page...Thats just pure lazy! COME ON PEOPLE!

Well, like I say, ignorance can be cured, but stupidity is permanent. Plenty of people come here that don't know anything; that's what the site is for. But some of them take the time to look around and help themselves first, before asking an FAQ. They stop getting treated like n00bs pretty quickly, and they learn. Soon they are accepted members.

The other ones, who are just too lazy to do any research at all, and who are proud of their ignorance - they are stupid, and they will always be at odds with the community. They will always be n00bs because they have no desire to be anything else, as long as people put up with them and spoon feed them. I don't see much reason to babysit that type, and if they get put off and leave, good riddance.

Unfortunately (for some) when one is registering to a forum like this there is no requirement to pass an IQ test or any test whatsoever. Therefore, anyone with internet access and a keyboard can come along and type whatever they want about whatever they want. And then people come down on them. With no real rules to follow how can we get mad when they break them? Really now? I'll admit, posts about how to win a certain race or how to tune a car may be annoying to me, however; two pages of posts from people complaining about that are even more annoying. Here's a tip for the quick-to-anger: when you see a thread with a title such as, "how do I win..?", or "How do I tune ___ ...?" you have the choice to save yourself some aggravation and ignore it.

i think that newbies should be excused when they ask a question that seems obvious to the more experienced member...

the good job that the members and the owner of this site has done to make it very popular also makes it the first point of contact on the internet for new folk seeking information on GT3...a lot of people have never heard of GTvault when they arrive here and seeing this amount of information on a site can be a bit overwhelming....

patience should be exersiced and also its good to let all new member know about the search function on thier first post, however, if they post something simple, then everying deserves a second chance....plus it makes us all look like we are experts when we answer thier questions....!!!

TS

Newbies are often so excited once they become a new member, they often post a new thread without taking consideration that it might be a well known fact, or something that was recently discussed. They tend to act before thinking because their anxiety has clouded their judgement. They tend to think what they know has never been discussed before. Or maybe they have never been to a forum before, and they don't know to do a search first. We are not born knowing everything in the world, but sometimes it amazes me how hastily some newbies post their threads without taking the time to learn how things are properly done. Perhaps it is from a lack of respect.

Maybe a pop-up warning directly following signing up as a member, warning not to post a thread before doing a search for the topic, if one is not already in place. When, and if, it is ignored, give the guy an automatic three day ban from posting anything if that is possible. Flaming the guy works good too, but this might make us all look extremely rude if we all did it. Perhaps we should all take turns.

Newbies are going to make mistakes, no question about it. It's just one of the negatives of being a member of a forum. Just relax, warn him as nice as possible, and move on. If you can't handle being nice, then let somebody else do it. Just ignore him, but give the guy a chance to redeem himself, but if he does it more than once, then off with his head.

But there are real rules. First, there's the Acceptable Use Policy. Yes, it's a fairly standard set of rules, but it's there. Second, there are all the Read This: topics at the top of most boards. Those contain nearly all of the most Frequently Asked Questions, and if you look past the end of your nose, you'll find them. There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying "Hey, I looked around but I didn't find a good answer; here's my question:" That at least shows you know that you should try.

About 16 months ago I was a n00b here too. I asked a couple dumb questions. But I only asked a couple, and then I started to keep my mouth shut and look for myself before diving in. I try to imagine new users being just like me, and greet them, and point them in the right direction. Occasionally it's hard to make that allowance, like when you see a new thread just an inch away from an old thread on the identical topic. But some people have been here long enough to know where to look, and simply can't be bothered. That's the kind of user we can do without.

So I'm all for giving someone a chance or two, but there's no reason to have unlimited patience.
