Some of the issues people are experiencing are due to the nature of the peer to peer network - whether it is due to speed, latency or NAT3, one bad connection can mess up the experience for a whole room.
I have found that if the host has a good connection (NAT2) and uses the FIXED HOST option, one bad connection will not bring the room down and everyone will have a much more stable experience.
By all means, try it out and I think you will see a reduction (though not complete elimination) of issues.
The only downside is, if the host leaves the room closes.. but really, it's not that big a deal.
