ok i was just wondering what the point of this song is. is the anti-christ superstar (marilyn manson) just trying to make fun of the religion, or is he going religious.

it is marilyn manson's new single, if you havn't heard the song, quite catchy too.

Is it a cover of the Depeche Mode song? If so, the point is that the songwriter will be the "personal Jesus" of the lover he's singing it to: always there to listen, and urging them to rely on faith in him.

I'll be your own personal Jesus -
someone to hear your prayers,
someone who cares -
reach out and touch faith!

One of my favorite songs, and also covered quite well by Johnny Cash.

yes that is the lyrics (if not, very close)

when i was listening to it i was like, wtf is marilyn manson singing about jesus for

I like to listen to the three versions in succession. My personal favourite is the Johnny Cash version. 👍

The odd thing about the Johnny Cash version is this: Depeche Mode played a show at the local university arena here, and they gave an interview with the college-run radio station. During that interview Gahan Wilson and ... oh hell, the singer, I forget his name - played an acoustic version of the song in the broadcast studio. This was probably 10 years ago. That acoustic version sounds exactly like the Johnny Cash version, minus Billy Preston on piano. As far as I know the only copy of this song is property of a 1000-watt amateur college station, so I think the odds that Johnny heard it before he recorded his are fairly slim.

BTW the Depeche Mode acoustic version is great too.

anybody have a link where i could get the song. (if it's illegal then don't post it)

is marilyn manson's version comparable to the real version?

BTW, anyone going to any of the marilyn manson concerts? he is such a freak, but a good singer

Marilyn said that he didn't want to drastically change this cover compared to his other covers so that's why it has some similarities.

I'll have to try to listen to that Depeche Mode acoustic version, Duke. 👍.

Well, I just seen this song on Video Hits this morning. Awfully boring, lol. Although it might be my hate for Marylin Manson talking. He has 1 good song: Beautiful People.
