What fuel(s) Do you use? Multiple choise!

oh yeah, sorry about forgeting the to add the "oline" onto "gas" haha. yeah i can't imagine having a diesel vehicle, petrol only family <8- ) they all run on 87 but if the porsche ran it would go on 93 (u.s.)
on another note, mkrtmkr1986 what gas station do you go to to get 94? and i thought it was nice that michigan got 93 unlike the losers (just joking) who only have 91 at their disposal. of course you can easily get race fuel at some stations in my area but i doubt i will ever have a car that need to run 100+ haha we have a drag strip in our area so some people need it.

And just to clear this up, the the higher octane rating (at least the U.S. system) the more compressed the fuel needs to be to combust, correct? Is that all there is to it, or is there other reasons for higher octanes?

Sunoco is the only gas station in New York that I know of that sells 94 octane fuel. I'm not certain if there are any other gas stations that sell an octane that high.
 
Hang on. Isn't LRP the same thing as unleadded? As in what everyone in the uk uses, and I would hope in the US as well.

The higher the octane, the more resistant it is to engine knocking, which is when the fuel explodes and combusts at the wrong time of the combustion cycle. Not a good thing for your car. Many engines work fine with 87 octane, although some obviously require higher octane. You should check your manufactuer booklet and use the octane that they recommand.

No.

LRP (Lead Replacement Petrol) is petrol with an anti-knock additive which isn't lead. Unleaded petrol is petrol without an additive.

LRP - sometimes labelled on pumps with a symbol similar to old four-star - is for cars which haven't been/can't be converted to run with unleaded.

I run a diesel car and get 50 to the gallon from my repmobile. Paying 95.9 pence per litre you needs as many miles / gallon as possible as the firm only reimburse me at a miserly rate per mile.
 
I read this on Jalopyjournal.com. It's quite interesting. Some people use propane for their hotrods, and get great mileage. THere's links in it on various alternate energy powered rods. There's even a hydrogen powered Cobra!:eek:

I've also read in other threads on the H.A.M.B (forum on jalopy journal) that many people go to resaurants for Waste Vegetable oil, and run it in their diesels. It's free fuel!

Nope.

You're legally required to pay duty on it. If you don't you're committing fraud.

A secretary I used to work with drove a V8 Discovery. Her husband bought a gas pump and used it to transfer gas from the propane cylinders he used in his business into the Disco's gas tank.
 
I've noticed a few older Landrover Freelanders seem to be running on LPG in my area, is it just a space thing or an engine thing?
 
It could be an efficiency and low emission thing. I've read that LPG gets a tiny bit better mileage than gas, and has much lower emissions, at a 15 % price in power loss.

Maybe Famine or firebird will have some more info.
 
LPG gets worse milage than petrol but is much cheaper, not sure about overseas but we have alot of LPG fueled cars here.

roughly
LPG = $0.45 per litre
RON 93 = $1.15 per litre
 
The Neon uses 87-octane gas, which as of tomorrow, will be $1.04.x PER LITRE (up from 99.9 today). Oil company bastards, "Ooh, look at us.... we can rip you off and you can do nothing about it".

Edit - Drove by the gas station. It was $1.04.9 per per litre.

From Social studies class I have learned that The US of A has huge amounts of natural gas. (some of it here in Kansas.) If the conversion isn't expensive, and if it pollutes less, why aren't places like LA and houston jumping to make the switch? And doesn't Canada have enough Oil shale to rival saudi arabia's oil content? why isn't it being processed, and is the process too expensive to yield cheap gas?
 
To be honest, I don't know. Parts of Canada (northern Alberta, parts of Northwest Territories, offshore on both east and west coasts) have oil, so why we don't have cheaper gas is lost on me. We don't have enough to rival the Middle east, but I'm sure we could produce enough to supply most of Canada. There are already some large oil companies in northern Alberta.... Syncrude and I forget the other one. And on the east coast, as well.
 
My car runs on cows.

So no more cow tiping!


Err, my family runs all 87 octane fuel. Cheapest we can find. Runs like 2.10+ a gallon though...
