I was at a local outdoor hobby shop and they had a bunch of this company's products in their pet area. My dog and I recently hiked up Pinnical Mountain here in Central Arkansas and had a good time, but it would have been nice if he could have carried his own water, and possibly had some boots to help protect his puppy feet.

By the way, here is Jake. He's a pitt-bull mix about 10 months old. I rescued him by way of a woman who found him chained to a street sign. He's my first dog, and quite a lot of dog to have right off.

Has anyone used products from Ruff Wear? They seem pretty durable, and well designed, but they sure are pricey.
 
I typically think that clothes on animals looks really stupid. Of course whenever I see that it is usually a tux or something. In this case the RuffWear looks pretty nice. As far as if you should spring for the $38 shoes and $70 coat, it all depends on how often you and Jake go hiking. For me, not a chance. My dogs are doing good if they go for a walk once a month but I do run them around the backyard a few times a day. If you go hiking weekly, I say go for it. Jake being injured once will more than likely cost more than what you would spend for "clothes" for him.
 
That's a very good point. One cut foot could cost that much or more, and make the dog very dissagreable in the process.

He hates water, funny to watch, so I don't think a life vest is really in order. But that reflective thing could be nice as it's often late before I get home to walk him.
 
All dogs can swim, even if they don;t like the water.....most boxer / bull style dogs don't like the water, mostly becasue they have 0% body fat and have a hell of a time staying afloat easily....but givin the circumstance, he'd swim...I have a 3 year old German Shepherd, and she loves water...up to her neck, once she can't touch bottom, she goes bananas....but she did swin when she slipped off of the dock at mt grandparents cottage
