"Bruno Famin, Technical Director: “Our work has focused on saving weight and extracting superior, reliable performance from the engine with a view to enabling us to race at the same pace as we lap in practice, not to mention the optimisation of every one of the car’s components."

This quote sheds some light on why Peugeot's race pace was so far off Audi's despite the close qualifying times. I've always suspected they tuned the engine back for the race to try and make it more reliable and it seems I was right. However the Audis still have a visible mechanical/aero grip advantage over the Peugeots so it will be interesting to see how Peugeot changes that.

But if Peugeot does not have to tune back their engine as much as they did last year they should be within 1-2 seconds of Audi's race pace not 3-5 like last year by just doing that

Hopefully they will make the necessary changes to successfully compete with Audi
