Peugeot has just reveiled their new 2008DKR for Dakar 2016. It looks brutal

I agree. Red Bull makes some really good looking test liveries *cough* camobull *cough*. Too bad they never have the guts to use them in races.

Nothing related to guts here. It's a marketing thing. This is basicaly the same prototype livery as the Pike's peak peugeot had when we first saw it :

Looks promising.

Add Sainz and Despres to it and you have pretty much a dream team of dakkar winner + Loeb.

Hopefully Peugeot knows what they are doing and will bring reliable car.

I still don't get the goal of Dakar for Peugeot, I mean they've poured a good bit of money in the past few years on the more outer edge, but big time Motorsport events. So since they had a bad outing last year ( due to wrecks), if they win this year are they just going to pack up and go do something else after they collect the trophy?

I don't get Peugeot motorsports involvement in general.

Sure they tend to get their goals but they move around soo much you forget what they do.

I guess they are out there to get as many different trophys as possible so they can put it on their 208 sales adverts.

It wasn't really crashes or reliability that was their downfall last year, the car just want as fast as the 4WD stuff.

* TC2000 408 and 308 are popular in Argentina. Team Peugeot Total.
* They have a 208 endurance cup (France).
* They have a RCZ racing cup which will be replaced with the 308 racing cup (France).
* They are involved in World Rallye Cross (WRX).
* They are involved in ERC.
* Rallye Raid and Dakar 2015/2016 and probably 2017.

They withdrew from Lemans due to the high costs of the development of the prototype. I think we will see them back at Lemans and WEC within a couple of years.

WTCC is not really an option because Citroën is currently running as a manufacturer which is part of the PSA-group. TCR could be a possibillity but it would be a privateer team.

He's not saying that, it seems to echo slightly what I said, which is that Peugeot don't seem to have rhyme or reason to what they're doing in the Motorsports world. They pick these expensive endeavors that are not highly publicized like their last serious major Motorsports role (Le Mans/ILMC). The series that they do compete in or minor races are outer fringe of the Motorsports world and not something nearly as glamorous as a LMP. I mean for a group that can clearly build some great race vehicles and engines, you'd think by now they'd either go back and do WEC or build engines for F1 or go full time WRC.

Dakar isn't cheap, and like other high dollar fringe racing...that development money could probably bank roll some of the other thing I mention. Le Mans isn't nearly as expensive as you put it (Look at Toyota) and the only reason they left was due to the Global economic crisis fro 2008-2011/12.

I'm glad you brought up WTCC though, I forgot about the PSA group. Other than WRX growing quite fast, I don't see them doing anything massive other than winning outside high dollar events using plenty of money.

Just like I didn't see a point to Pikes (though cool).

It's true that they tend to move around within the different disciplines. In the late 80ties they won Dakar and after they returned to Lemans/Sportscar, followed by F1, Touringcar and then Rallye. Maybe they will follow they same path again except for F1.

Peugeot seems to enter, wanting to win and then choose something else to focus on. Their general director said a few weeks ago that currently they are happy where they are in motorsports.

In the end of 2016 they will release their 308 racing cup for the motorsports market and I think they have invested quite a lot in this one. It's developped for touringcar racing in a broad variety and maybe we could see a factory team turning up somewhere.

Maybe you're on to something and it's cyclical...thus after they win all this they'll go back to Le Mans and F1 doubt it but one can hope.
