As every year, I'm looking forward to the 24 Hours of Le Man, which I enjoy every year. And, while this is most likely old news to some of you, I just recently found out that Peugot has stopped its LMP programme entirely.

So, I've always been rooting for Audi in the big Audi vs. Peugot battle, 2012 is going to be a pretty shallow victory without the strongest competitor. Granted, I'm usually more interested in the GT carss, but this is still somewhat shocking news.

So, what's your opinion on the matter, guys?

It's a shame but if they were just gonna resort to the dirty tactics they tryed to use last year than i won't miss them. Hopefully with Porsche coming back in 2013 or 14? we will have another great battle on our hands.

Could be an Audi vs. Toyota battle this year!

I really want to make the trip over to see Le Mans, quite cheap especially if you camp!

A disappointment to say the least. I was hoping they could give Audi(my favorite because I've owned a lot of Audis in my life) a good run. Lets hope Toyota shows up with a quick car. I'm really excited about this year specifically because of Toyota. The wild looks of the R18 always looks cool too.

Hmmm Audi vs Toyota then. Audi is going with a hybrid system too, could be an interesting race!

I wish Peugeot would race this year. I just don't think Toyota will be on par with Audi this year, being it's there first year since the TS020 ran.

Should be 2014, I think. But from what I know, Peugot's only been talking about this year, so they might be back 2013. Let's hope so.

I doubt that... Toyota's more likely to just use this as a development season. It's their first year in quite a while, after all.

I think so too, they said it was due to money issues. Their road cars are not selling as they hoped they would..

Must admit i did see that somewhere awell. Because of car sales and all the new releases they want out this year they wouldn't have had enough for this years le mans and next, so perhaps they are just out for this year so they can afford to run next year lol

Well, let's hope that they're back in 2013. Toyota might become a bit of a thread next year, but having more than just two dominant manufacturers in the LMP class would do Le Mans some good, I think.

This year, though, I'll be focussing on the GT classes even more, I guess

"Rule Changes Introduced to Spice Up LM P1 Manufacturer’s World Title in 2012

In a change to the original FIA World Endurance Championship regulations issued in December, only the highest finishing car in LM P1 will score championship points for the Manufacturer’s World Title at each of the eight rounds in 2012 and only the six best scores, which must include the points scored at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, will count towards the title. This means that Toyota, who are entering the Championship at Spa in May, will be able to take the challenge to Audi in 2012.

“The changes were requested following the withdrawal of Peugeot from the FIA World Endurance Championship last month and were agreed by all parties,” said FIA WEC CEO Gerard Neveu. “The changes will allow Toyota, who have brought forward their participation in the championship to round 2 in Spa, to fight with Audi for the inaugural World Endurance Championship Manufacturer’s title.

“These changes to the regulations will certainly make the 2012 season more exciting for both teams and spectators alike.”

The changes were agreed by the FIA Endurance Commission and ratified by the FIA World Council.

The regulations regarding the FIA World Endurance Driver’s Championship and the other titles are unchanged.

With 30 confirmed entries for 2012, the FIA World Endurance Championship will start in Florida on March 17 with the 60th edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring, one of the world’s leading endurance races. The FIA WEC will also visit Belgium, France, UK, Brazil, Bahrain, Japan and China."

While I agree with the general idea to faciliate some competition in the LMP1 class, I still highly dislike that sort of rule changes that openly favours a certain manufacturer.

Also, let's be honest, Le Mans iss what it's all about. As much as I love endurance racing, and as important as the FIA WEC title is, Le Mans is where the public attention is at. And those changes will do nothing to revent Audi from dominatin there.

But, it's not really a big deal. Toyota wasn't likely to be a good replacement for Peugot, anyways. Not in their very first season, at least.

amen! i'm a loyal Audi fan and i'm sad to see the competition go, but i won't miss them, i think the paid the ferraris to knock out both the 3 and the 1 at Le Mans 2011... Audi forever

Haha, I heard they wanted 1.8M in Euro for this one:

Or do you rather have an FXX..? This one is going for sale this weekend:

The last one (wich wasn't even an Evoluzione) went for €2.6M

I prefer the 908, because it'll be cheaper, if the prices you listed are right. That and I would rather own a race car, and put it in my garage. Than a car, that I can't even put in my garage. Now only if I had 1.8 million.
