I have a launch day PS3, still running fine, no YLOD or anything yet, and since I updated this game, it's locked up a number of times before the menu with GT mode, Arcade mode etc, but now it's stuck there and there's no cursor to select an option with, any advice?

I'm currently having this problem, as well.

Is it only when your are logged in to the PSN?

I can play fine when I'm signed off, it locks up when I'm logged on.

Lemme know if this is the case for you.

I also have a Fat 80 GB

I've got the launch-day 60gb and I've never had any of these problems, but I'd suggest that maybe you want to check and see how much free space your machine has on the HDD, or maybe consider restoring it?

This is a fairly big issue that a lot of people are happening, yet GTP isn't really paying any attention.

It has something to do with the PSN and being signed in while trying to play. You CANNOT be signed into the PSN while playing, otherwise the game 'freezes' while trying to connect to the PD servers. I've done everything I possibly can to fix it. Reinstalled four times using different methods(Patch first, patch after, patch after install and then install again, etc), none of them have helped. I've deleted my actual save game data after saving it to a USB drive, that didn't help at all either.

I cannot play online, nor can I access any of the online features or events, nor can I play GT5 while signed into the PSN at all. I've refreshed my IP, messed with my network settings, etc. I can still play other games online, so it's a GT5-only problem.

This is on a brand new 160gig slim. I doubt it's the system, but something to do with the servers. Been this way since the update came out.

im also getting this problem....
and i have a 160gb SLIM

i just stops at the GRAN TURISMO 5 LOGO (not the GT logo)

That's what I mean, the GT5 logo.

It's not able to connect to the servers, so it hangs forever while it tries to, over and over.
👎👎👎👎👎

Ya, unfortunately every time some one brings it up ,it gets brushed aside with a "problem on your side" statement. PD needs to fix this.

I'm having the same issue here, somebody mentioned reconfiguring your networking settings may fix the issue. I'll give it a go and see if it helps.

..Minus the one guy from the states, I just noticed the rest of us are from Canada.

PD, I'm unamused right now if you've shut down Canadian GT5 players.

I think Canada is well represented on GTP. Also, any other canuck angry about not being able to sign up for GT Academy.

At this rate, we wouldn't have been able to participate in it anyway :(.

But yeah, I think there was a mix up somewhere over in the server room, and Canadian ISP's/PSN ID's have been added to a blacklist.

Yup, had the problems last night with it freezing at a lot of different places. It seems to be anything with the network type stuff. I would look for the seasonal events and it would say they dont exist, a couple of tries later and there it was. I have an older Phatty with an upgaded HDD (320 gig) so I am sure it is not a HDD issue but more network related.

I too am in Canada

Still having this problem, and it's starting to get very annoying. Not just because I can't do any of the seasonal events of get any of the stuff PD is giving away for free, but because I can't even talk to my friends on the PSN while I play.

Mine`had this issue from day 1 of installing GT5, so i bought a 320gb and retired my 60gb just incase it got YLOD .. There seems to be lots of people having issues of 1 kind or the other with GT5 on first generation PS3's. Although my 60gb still plays all my other games faultless just like it always did.

I'm going to put GT5 away for a while I guess, I've done almost all of the events on single player.

Can't get the daily rewards, can't try the seasonal events, nothing. Thanks PD.

Ok, I have encountered this problem too. I have tried disabled internet connection (not sign in) and I am stuck at the start up screen. Enable internet connection, signed in no problem. Still stuck in at the opening screen.

Basically, I can't play GT5 right now. Period.

Tried other games and everything else works fine except GT5...... any one has any idea?

FYI

I was able to resolve this problem by deleteing the installed game data (not your saved data, ie your progress) and reinstalling the game from scratch. Reinstall 1.05 patch and the game is now back to normal.

Give it a shot. Just again, be careful not to delete your progress file.

I tried this in every possible way. With the patch already installed, without the patch, before the patch, after the patch, blah blah.

Nothing worked.

I tried making a new PSN from the States, still didn't work.

I have shelved GT5 for now, and am playing some older games in the mean time.

I had this problem too where in menus throughout the game it was hardlocking, this started happening right after I installed Patch 1.05.

At first I thought it was my old fatty PS3 dieing, its quite ancient now so I went out and bought a 320GB Slim. Got it home spent a couple of hours transferring everything from the old one to the new one and loaded up the game... Same problem. 👎

Suffice to say I wasn't very happy, then it dawned on me that the first thing I did after the update was to select some custom BGM for the menus and what not. So I quickly disabled the User BGM, but the lockups carried on. Then I went and deleted all the music and playlists off the PS3 and you know what... not a single lock up at loading or in menus since (touch wood) 👍

Not sure what causes it precisely, perhaps its a MP3 of dubious integrity, or the PS3 struggles with variable bitrate MP3's but this fixed it 100%.

If you've got lock ups and have messed with the user BGM this is the first place you should look. It may not fix all of your issues but if this helps someone... then nice one 👍
