This is a fairly big issue that a lot of people are happening, yet GTP isn't really paying any attention.
Why would that make any difference?

I had this problem too where in menus throughout the game it was hardlocking, this started happening right after I installed Patch 1.05.
At first I thought it was my old fatty PS3 dieing, its quite ancient now so I went out and bought a 320GB Slim. Got it home spent a couple of hours transferring everything from the old one to the new one and loaded up the game... Same problem. 👎
Suffice to say I wasn't very happy, then it dawned on me that the first thing I did after the update was to select some custom BGM for the menus and what not. So I quickly disabled the User BGM, but the lockups carried on. Then I went and deleted all the music and playlists off the PS3 and you know what... not a single lock up at loading or in menus since (touch wood) 👍
Not sure what causes it precisely, perhaps its a MP3 of dubious integrity, or the PS3 struggles with variable bitrate MP3's but this fixed it 100%.
If you've got lock ups and have messed with the user BGM this is the first place you should look. It may not fix all of your issues but if this helps someone... then nice one 👍

An update that bricks your GT5 shouldn't be big news on GTP?
So why would the GTP forum "paying attention" make any difference to the problem?
I think Canada is well represented on GTP. Also, any other canuck angry about not being able to sign up for GT Academy.

Mine started freezing the otherday. I did a couple things to resolve the issue, nothing helped. Turns out it was my music folder I was using for ingame music, I deleted that, and it fixed it up. Nomore issues.
Did you reset the PS3 after, or do anything else?
I've deleted all the music, turned off regular and personal BGM, and nothing. I'm once again reinstalling the game before I download the patch again, though I doubt it will help since it didn't the four other times three weeks ago.
I spent a lot of time online in Prologue, and now I haven't even seen what GT5's online looks like, let alone raced in it.![]()
