Thought you guys would appreciate these shots - the light was pretty freaky there for a while.

There was some flash flooding and a guy got hit by lightning at Randwick Golf Course (not killed), but otherwise not much damage.

dang vat...nice pics you took there...in the first 2 shots I can clearly see faces...kinda creepy

Mine!?! I wish! They're actually from the local newspaper (the good one), the Sydney Morning Herald.

1 and 2 kinda looks like the stay puff marsmallow man exploded in the sky.

in The ones taken on the beach looking out to sea, it looks like the storm is a megatsunami, with the clouds being the crest.

Damn, those pictures are awesome. Some of them are kind of freaky, like the one's that look like mile high tidel waves...:)

It was pretty weird to look at on the way home - these huge orange balls in the sky.

Woah... do you ozzies normally get weather like this? :?:

WOW man very nice pics. I love to see weather pics llike that.

Well, Sydney's in this basin - ringed by mountains to the north, west and south, with the ocean to the east and a large body of water in it - it's a temperate climate here, and the weather comes from the south east, so you quite often get good storms through here. Freaky storms are fairly common - the one in the pictures actually missed most of the city, it passed south.

About a month after we moved to Sydney there was a freaky hail storm that went through and caused millions of dollars of damage to cars and rooves - great fun. I remember driving home from the city about half an hour before the storm hit and a rain drop hit the windscreen right in front of my face - it made the loudest smack on the glass you ever heard, and left a watermark the size of a dinner plate on the windscreen.

is that a giant wave, or some sort of cloud?

nice shots!

Ooookkkkaaaayyyy... me ish glad to live in southern California, land of hot summers and mild winters. :p

I wouldn't be abe to stand living in any other kind of environment (I especially can't stand humidity)

Oh - it's very mild (while the hailstorm was happening ten km away I was on the couch in shorts and t-shirt watching TV), the coldest it ever gets to overnight in winter is about 6-8 deg celsius (and that's for about a week). I mean, we're two weeks from winter and it's about 20-21 c today. We just get occasional storms. In the summer, high 20's low 30s max temps.

But if you don't like humidity, ooh, best give it a miss then. Sydney does a fantastic sticky.

LOL... I've been to Thailand many times, hate it because of the humidity (very nice place though) ;) I've been to the Eastern states, hated it because of the humidity. Now, southern CA- I may get chapped lips and cracked feet, but I love being... dry. :D I've always wanted to visit Australia though... (it's been my childhood dream since age 7)

It's a bugger going on my usual hour and a half run on Sunday morning in 95% humidity - drenched clothing, and who can spell dehydration? (I can, just let me get a drink of water first)

Many years ago my old man taught me a trick of running a bridge of vaseline across your brow so the sweat runs down the side of your face and not into your eyes - man, that one was golden...

It's a cloud - if it was a giant wave, well, I think the destruction of Sydney's eastern suburbs would probably have made international headlines - that's Bondi Beach by the way.

Yeah - getting a bit fresh now. The weather's on the turn now, good clear days 20c now, not 25, so not too many of the lovely lasses out there now.

Never mind - Sydney's surf is better over winter, and the beaches aren't as crowded - time to break out the ol' steamer!

Wow those pics are insane! I'd love to go there sometime. 😈

i remember when we had a big hail storm here in brizzy, smashed up the pajero pretty damn bad. wasnt too bad, got new bonnet, windscreen and a fresh coat of paint out of insurance.

car yards were selling really heavily discounted cars  a VS SS i saw was 16 990...was pretty messed up though.

also put a few holes through windows in the shed...not happy jan.

Sik. Would of seen the clouds if i still lived in marrickville.

Regards The Porko

I heard two good stories at the golf club from Sydney's April '98 hailstorm:
- a guy who had a faded red 1988 Corolla - had about 280,000km on it, looked after it mechanically but wasn't fussed about its appearance. It got the hell kicked out of by the hail. The insurance company wrote it off and gave him a cheque for $6500. He went to auction a week later, bought it back for $500, spent $50 to get a side window fixed, got it re-registered and he was on his way!
- a guy was visiting his mother in Randwick (where the 98 storm hit hardest) and took his 18 month old Commodore he'd just bought. It started hailing, and his mother gave him a quilt to put over it to protect the paint. As he stepped out the front door, an ice block the size of a video recorder, with six inch spikes, fell into the front yard. 'Ahhh, it's insured...'

yeah it worked out ok for me because the paint was crazed and really crappy

Incredible pictures, v_man, thanks for sharing!

Whole damn thing looks freaky. God; I've never seen clouds like that ever.
