Photoshop transfer help...

...I'm looking to transfer photoshop CS5 full version from my HDD to an external device and use it on that instead to free up some space.
It may sound as simple as putting it on a USB stick,but I've heard that,if done wrong it can be erased.
So,how do I transfer it correctly and what do I transfer it too?
Also,do I still keep my personal data?

I've never tried it, but it should work. Make a copy of the install directory to the USB drive and try to run it from there (not your start menu or desktop shortcut, from the install directory itself) if it works, close the program, rename the primary install directory (something like CS5.bak), and try to run it from your USB again. If it still works, then it should work just fine; then just make the desktop shortcut from that copied executable.
