Physics from this day forward. What do you expect?

Physics, in my opinion, make games extremely fun and sets the great games apart from the not so great games. I made this thread to see what everyone else expects from now on when it comes to physics. My example is bullet holes and explosions in FPS. Tire marks, sparks, great exhaust tones for racing games. There is just no reason the new games shouldnt have these. It really should be mandatory at this point. For FPS games, if I shoot or walk into water it better respond 100%. I want to see ripples when I walk in there or drop an object into the water. Makes perfect sense to me. Lets hear what you expect from the next gen systems.
I can make some exceptions.

seems great in theory, but could you imagine the sheer amount of code involved in creating believable ripples and such? I have no doubt that it will get there eventually, but not for quite a while yet.

If it doesn't affect gameplay, I don't care about physics. Physics on particle systems are nice, but far from essential.

Also, the PSP will never do those things. The Wii probably won't. Sure, the PS3 and X360 will have the horsepower, as will some computer systems. I'd prefer on the "lower-end" systems that the developers spent the CPU and memory on stuff that matters to gameplay.

One of the most interesting articles i've read in a while. Just look at the video section, it's amazing 👍

- Wrestling/fighting games where the people actually react to how you hit them is high on my list. Being a big WWF fan a few years back, i used to play wrestling games all the time, but the games were dull; more scripted than real WWF.

- Liquid that is reacts like liquid. Water that flows and can be displaced etc. There are some PS3 demos that show the Eyetoy guy using his creation to throw water between two cups. Looked rubbish, but the idea is there. I want be able to blow a hole in a pipe and drown a corridor of enemies in an FPS dammit!

- Destructable buildings, plants, people etc. that react to contact from other 'world' objects. Red Faction came close, but fizzled.

It basically all adds up to real life. I want all games that are supposed to be real life to react like real life. I can't drive a car into a building and marvel at the way the building crumbled in RL, but would i want to do it in the next GTA, hell yes. Would i want to run someone over and watch as their body bent the bonnet and then flew over the roof into the car behind, of course.

I want it all, and i want it now. *air guitar*

There is a game out thats close to meeting your Destructable buildings requirement. Black. They did the best job so far with destruction physics. If you shoot 5,000 bullets in the game, the shells, and the bullet holes stay! And that was a PS2 game. Thats the perfect example of why the next gen systems should do it too. If I shoot a guy in the head I want the bullet hole to stay there. Far Cry for the PC did this and it turned out pretty good. Anywhere you shoot the bullet hole stayed on the body. Some day they will release a perfect FPS that combines everything I want. Blow limbs off, bullet holes stay, explosions and destructive scenery. Same with car games. Eventually they will make a perfect one with everything I want. Forza did a really great job with the physics where GT4 had the graphics. I am extremely excited for the next gen in gaming for the PS3, 360, and future PC games. :)
Just like you I want real life and as close as possible to it. Now im not saying I cant still enjoy games but I just have much higher expectations now that I have seen the possibilies.

i rented the new TOMB RAIDER game on 360 last night and when you jump in water it ripples and splashes, not as much as KAMEO but i think KAMEO ripples a little too much.
