Well, I'm planning on going on vacation and I want to keep my tunes with me, I want have a laptop, and I don't want to carry a un-über CD player. So I'm in the market for a MP3 player, I want to be able to take atleast 200-300 songs, I'm going for a month. I've looked at the iPod Mini, but most anti-apple's will disagree with that decision but meh. Any idea's? :dopey:

Edit: Ohh, did I mention that I'm a fancy, smancy, and I must have something that look's good.

Don't buy an iPod Mini. They cost the same as a normal 20GB iPod (I think their lowest iPod now is 20GB. It may still be 15GB) but they only have 4GB of space. The Creative Nomad Zen is good too.

They cost the same as the last generation iPod, the new iPod is $429.99( note I'm talking about canadian prices).

You can now purchase a 20GB iPod for $299 and you can purchase an iPod mini for $249.
If you are gonna get an iPod, get the 20GB version. I know I'd pay $50 more for 16 more GB.

I know, that's the last generation iPod, I'd rather get a new iPod Mini, than a last generation iPod.

New iPod Mini 4GB - $349.99
New iPod 20GB - $429.99
Old iPod 10GB - $379.99

Canadan prices. The iPod mini is already expensive as it is, I looked up the Nomad Creative Jukebox, and that look's good, but it's $379.99, I'm not in the position to spend an extra few dollers just so I can have more space.

Edit: What do you think of the Rio Nitrus 1.5GB MP3 Player?
That's a darn good price on it.

don't bother with iPod - the battery life on their things is terrible - plus the iTunes app becomes a major biatch after a few months of using it to synchronize your playlist.

you can't possibly go wrong with an iRiver H120. The Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra or the newer model, the Zen Touch is also a primo player.

I wouldn't even consider anything else on the market in terms of quality players at good price points

Prices and features (canadian dollars)
prices pulled from Compusmart - it's a canadian company and they should have a store in your city if you dont want to order off their website.
-20gb iRiver h120 @ $469 - has every feature you could ever ask for. voice recording, fm tuner, and doesn't require software. I have the 40 gig model. It's also the sexiest mp3 player on the market. You could also wait a few weeks for the H3xx series to come out - those are built entirely out of carbon fiber and have color screens (comparable price too) :D
-20gb Zen Touch @ $399 - costs a bit but you can't go wrong with the 24 hr battery life). Plus you get the amazing audio quality offered by all Creative Labs products
-30gb zen xtra @ $449 - spectacular sound quality but a bit bulky.
-20gb ipod @ 429 - no features built in whatsoever aside from a few cheesy games. Apple claims 12 hour battery life but it's nowhere close to that. You're only paying for the Apple design here

-4gb ipod mini @ 349 - same lack of features as the regular ipod but in a smaller format. Not so great battery life
-4gb Creative Nomad Muvo2 @ $253 - Same spectacular sound quality of the Zen Xtra, 14 hour battery life, same size as iPod Mini

One final option:
-20gb Dell Digital Jukebox @ $399 - don't laugh. This sucker is built by Creative labs and offers the same features as the Zen series of players but in a design similar to the Zen Touch.

It's a good unit but most of rio's mp3 players have been known to have poor build quality
I'm much likeing the Rio, because of the 1.5GB - $249.99, it's going to be much better on the wallet.

Eh... if you do a search you'll probably find a lot of the same kinds of threads as this one... While I know the actual people that designed the current rio products I cannot recommend anything of Rios. I will however recommend these sites, I'm not sure of outside of USA though??

Mp3mall.net/

Mp3players.co.uk

I got this already but I'm kinda thinking of selling it or...

Neuros Audio

getting one of these... for my 512 jumpdrive...

Sandisk

don't bother with iPod - the battery life on their things is terrible.

I've had my iPod for about 2 1/2 months and when charged fully(which takes about 4 hours) it last more than 12 hours, but only around 10 if the backlight is on constantly(which would be useless during the day anyways)

I'd appreciate some opinions on the Sony MiniDisc Walkman's, those are very good deals in the fact that there $149.99, for a player that has 30+hours of battery life, 5 hours of music capability per CD.

You can get a CD-MP3 player for like 60USD (76.54CAD), if that works for you. They've all got insane battery life and you can fit 700 MB worth of MP3s on a CD.

Unless you're going to spend a bunch of money on a high-end 20GB+ model, you should probably get one of those CD-MP3 players.

I hear that iRiver makes some nice ones. For some godforsaken reason you seem to care about the aesthetics - iRiver's SlimX line looks very sleek (maybe even svelte).

I'm not sure why people actually liked md players... expensive... not much better than CD and your stuck with sony crap as always.

After about an hour of searching I've found another player I like:

10041687.gif

- 128MB
- MP3, WMA
- USB Flash Drive aswell
- Sennheiser MX300 Earbuds
- Backlit LCD displays ID3 track details and player settings.

👍

what's it cost? I honestly wouldn't get a rio mp3 player unless it was the Rio Karma...

Hell, 128 megs in itself isn't enough for what you said you want. If it costs the same as the MD player or cdmp3 player, get one of those instead

Ok, I know this stuff is your own preference but how bout this...

1. what are you going to be doing with it? Long trips or daily short trips

2. how much music do you want to carry around and how often does your mood of music change?

3. batt. life, other features (i.e. voice recording, fm radio, etc.)

finally it seems like no matter what it is flash or Hard drive it will be between $100 to about $300 respectively anything over $300 is probably not worth buying or you won't be utilizing all the features.

Hope that helps or gives you direction.

It's $119.99, the base Sony MD player is $149.99.

  • I usually listen to the same music for about a month before hating it, so yeah.
  • I want to carry atleast 40 songs.
  • I want portability.
  • I want something that's cheap. I've decided that I'm not looking at anothing over $200.
  • I'm mainly getting one for my Asia vacation, I need some tunes.
  • Must have excellent battery life( 18+ preffered).
  • Must have backlight.

I'm not sure about batt life but I'm gonna bet that if you get at least 512mb it will be good enough for you and I believe most of the ones I'm thinking of are under $200. I guess you don't care about other features as well just being able to dump songs and press play right?

If so... try Muro

My friend got it with my recommendation and he's liked it.

They do have a 512mb version but I think it's over $200?

That's probably the closest I can help you with...

One more but I think it's going quick?! 30hr. batt life... Iaudio I think 512mb might also be a bit over $200 too.

The Sony MD players have around 30+ hours of battery life, I believe, and 600 tracks on the lowest bit-rate, which is exceptional for $149.99, if I purchase more minidiscs, that's basically unlimited space.

NOTE: I am not keen on ordering over the net, never have, never will. :)

Have you checked the Top-Selling List at Amazon.com? That's a nice place to start.

Look at this, Creative Labs Muvo NX 256 MB MP3 Player for $75.00!! And it qualifies for FREE SHIPPING.

I have this one and it's awesome. The amount of space (256 MBs) is just right and I love the fact that it also gets FM radio.

Check those links out, you should see something you like.

Why? You just have to be careful and have a bit of common sense. Amazon has awesome customer service and is pretty reputable.
