As I mentioned in my Canada GP thread, I went to Le Mans last weekend. I stayed up for the whole 24 hours. It was a pretty unique experience. It seems like a pretty repetitive race to just stay there and watch 24 hours (most of it from the same place, the grandstand I was sitting in, since except for the night and next day early morning, all the other general admission places are pretty packed). Anyway, the race is so long that something is bound to happen and many things did. The highlights would be seeing a Corvette spin out right in front of my grandstand on the gravel, and during the night one of the LMP1 cars ran into the #63 C6R while trying to lap it and I think it was Jan Magnussen at the helm, he ran wide, pretty spectacular. The best thing was cheering on the #63 Vette during the night and the second day as well as both Peugeot's and I would clap or wave every time they passed by. It was also nice to meet a lot of fans from Denmark, I had a chat for many hours with two groups of them, talked about all sorts of motorsport from ALMS to touring car to F1 and many other things. I really enjoyed meeting other race fans. Most of them seemed to come out during the night though. The big majority of people it seemed to me stayed around for the first hour or two hours of the race, maybe a bit more for others, then come back the next day for the last 2-3 hours. Quite a few Pescarolo fans too.
Anyway, here's the pictures I took. I don't have any pictures from near the end of the race because it started raining pretty badly and I couldn't be bothered to take any and it was pretty crowded too.
Congrats to David Brabham and Prodrive crew for winning the GT1 class. I am a bit mad about Audi winning again, I am not a fan of Audi at all, I really wanted someone else (in this case, Peugeot) to win especially since Villeneuve and Bourdais were at the helm. Unfortunately, Audi were prepared once again much better than everyone else. Overall a very enjoyable and unique experience.
This is a Peugeot 607, a car I really like.
